Since taking on this role I have been given a number of challenging assignments. This has enabled me to gain a full understanding of the Global Audit Methodology and working knowledge of AWS. I have also managed to develop other skills including better client and team relationships. Audit assignments have varied in size from small subsidiaries of overseas parents to large listed clients.

Fieldwork leader for group consolidation. Review Summary Review Memorandums from foreign subsidiaries and consider issues affecting the group accounts. Supervise other team members to ensure that the consolidation was being correctly performed. The task was both technically challenging being a high-risk client and had a tight reporting deadline. I will be supervising the audit of the company again this year with the aim of reducing the senior managers detailed involvement.
Numerica Plc (AIM listed):
Prior to listing this accountancy firm consolidator purchased Levy Gee Chartered accountants, the 18th Largest accountancy firm in the UK. My role was as fieldwork leader for the due diligence process was to perform an audit on the accounts for the consolidated accounts for the last three years and prepare a long form report for presentation to Numerica directors and nomination advisors. As this partnership had never been subject to an audit or required to prepare accountants for public viewing, there were significant accounting issues that needed to be discussed at all levels to decide on how the figures were to be presented. For this job I won an achievement award for dedication shown. I will be assisting in the audit this year at group level reporting to the senior manager.
Borders (UK) Limited (subsidiary of SEC listed):
Fieldwork leader/supervisor for this book retailer that is expanding rapidly in the UK. As this was the first year of this audit for EY, there was a requirement to fully understand the business and decide on an audit strategy within the bounds of the Global Audit Methodology. The project required the supervision of staff to perform the detailed audit work and to deal with particular accounting issues. As with most subsidiaries of listed companies the deadlines are very tight to report to the parent and all issues had to be dealt with sufficiently for partner review.

Was promoted to manager at this medium sized accountancy practice and had a dual role of developing the new corporate finance department and looking after a portfolio of clients for audit and corporate finance services. The role required good technical knowledge, coordinating many tasks at once and managing a number of staff. I decided to leave and work for Ernst & Young for the opportunity to have more challenging work with larger clients.

This company was set up by the directors who were given $25m to start up a global mobile telephone manufacturing company. For the purposes of enabling the directors to understand how to role out the firm globally and the profit potential of the company, I was brought in to assist them to put together forecasts for a five year period. This project took three months in total and was used as a template for departmental budgets and raise trade finance in the region of £100m.
