My background
Six sigma Blackbelt
I am a Six Sigma Academy trained DMAIC BlackBelt.
I have a detailed knowledge of DMAIC methodology and 15 years successful practical experience of applying Lean/ Continuous Improvement Techniques in the demanding, high precision, high quality, high volume automotive sector. The various roles that I have diligently performed have exposed me to a large range of processes. The skills I have developed are equally applicable to any transactional process environment.
I have 2years experience as an active Black Belt & previous 5years as a Greenbelt.
I started Blackbelt training in 2005 & gained certification in march 2007. I have demonstrated an excellent success & closure rate ; I have run nine BlackBelt projects in my own right, seven of which have already delivered sustained business improvement & are successfully controlled & closed..
My current employers' strategy is to embed active Blackbelts in existing roles so they can use their skills to improve everyday business performance whilst also delivering multiple, specific, customer-focussed projects. I apply the Six Sigma mindset in my daily work as well as lead Six Sigma improvement & Kaizen projects that reduce defects, produce significant cost savings, and increase customer satisfaction.
During the course of my Six Sigma duties I ;-
* Assist the management team with developing the business case to identify key improvement opportunities that are aligned with business priorities.
* Identify and assess appropriate Six Sigma projects, including replication opportunities & projects for other BBs.
* Scope the project, ie Refine the problem definition into measurables.
* Work with the Master Black Belt and Project Champions to ensure appropriate allocation of resources to support the projects.
* Lead and facilitate teams through some complex projects and develop their problem solving skills.
* Help the teams develop/ execute effective data collection & validation plans.
* Demonstrate strong analytical skills for information/data to evaluate current work processes and identify improvement strategies. I use various analysis techniques ( including Minitab) to determine statistical significance.
* Show strong communication, leadership and people management skills to influence senior management and persuade colleagues how to implement improvements in a timely & prioritised manner for maximum effect.
* Monitor/report the progress and effectiveness of Six Sigma projects.
* Deliver training on Six Sigma methodologies to Green Belts, teams and management.
* Lead, teach & mentor Green Belts and other personnel
* Have a flexible approach to travel when needed
Other current activities -Supervisory
As Senior Manufacturing Engineer with I lead & supervise my team of Engineers to project manage timely introduction of process improvements, design changes & APQP of new model engine programs to the two existing V8 assembly lines as well as commission the new V8 engine upgrade line at the site.
I promote an open culture in which I try & actively mentor & coach my team in as many skills as possible. This allows them to deliver process knowledge beyond their individual experiences and makes for a flexible and cohesive team. It is a fact that my team has consistently demonstrated both a very low level of absenteeism and the highest record of promotion within the plant. I believe that my approach is directly responsible for this success.
Other current activities - Project management experience - AJ133 assembly lead engineer
The aj133 is the replacement engine for the current V8 series. I have been able to use my considerable machining & assembly process knowledge plus my Blackbelt training to help deliver a successful launch and efficient future production. In this role I;-
* Represent the manufacturing plant at programme gateway audit reviews.
* Attend & actively contribute knowledge to the design for production reviews (including virtual builds).
* Assist supplier development to support STA & APQP process.
* Support prototype builds in order to develop effective production methods, jigs & fixtures at lowest total cost to the business. Plus project manage these items.
* Am part of the cross-functional team which develops the workstation verification. (Value Stream Map the processes to eliminate waste BEFORE installation ).
* Use "Voice of Customer"(VoC) & "Critical To Quality"(CTQ) to develop assembly process equipment functional specifications. I also sign-off equipment witness trials at vendors.
* Use CTQ to optimise the process parameters for high FTT & develop robust repair procedures where it is not cost-effective to design out the problem from process or part.
* Design-in effective error-proofing to ensure the "No Faults Forward" strategy is delivered.

* Six Sigma Academy DMAIC BlackBelt training. – I achieved certification in March 2007.
* Use of Minitab for statistical analysis.
* T3 Training – I am qualified to teach Greenbelts. Since May 2007 I have trained 15 Greenbelts.
