CAREER HISTORY
Currently Williams Operating Corporation, Williams Mine, Hemlo
Database Geologist, Contract
I am presently working at the Williams Mine, responsible for updating drill database, and geological interpretations within the exploration database. In addition, I am logging both exploration and underground core at the Minesite.
1998-2002 North American Palladium Ltd.
Senior Exploration Geologist
Working out of the Lac des Iles Minesite. Key accountabilities included project supervision and generation(on and off-site), drill site supervision, core logging, field mapping (field traverses to very large, stripped outcrops and trenches), resource modelling, and database maintenance. Researched, and still maintain, a comprehensive database to track PGE exploration activity on a property-to a-global scale. Effectively conducted field examinations and historical data reviews to determine the mineral potential of satellite, and prospective properties. Initiated contact with property vendors or companies to determine the framework of prospective deals. Accountable for the drilling and sampling databases (assays, survey, lithological data), including design, data input and validation, and QA/QC. Served as the liaison between the exploration department, our contractors, and the various mine departments. Additional responsibilities included all aspects of human resources, and acting (management) member of the joint health and safety committee member (Certified). From 1998 – 2001, Exploration was run through Matawin Mineral Exploration Inc., where I was Senior Exploration Geologist (Administrative) prior to amalgamation with North American Palladium Ltd. I was responsible for all of the above-mentioned activities, and was the payroll officer for the company, in addition to all hiring and other human resource duties.
1997 Avalon Ventures Ltd.
Geologist
Assisted in the evaluation of numerous properties throughout Northwestern Ontario for gold potential using the most efficient surveys (geology, geochemistry, etc.) to expedite the process. Responsible for data compilation, mapping, prospecting (and supervision of crews doing the same), and the design, and supervision, of a soil-geochemical survey. After generating drill targets, assumed drill site supervision duties for diamond drilling program.
1994-1996 Graphic Detail Inc.
Graphics Installer
1993-1994 Science North – Big Nickel Mine.
Exhibit Designer – Staff Supervisor
Designed, developed, produced, and maintained scientific exhibits and displays focusing on the mining and processing of ore minerals. Responsible for developing and leading school programs, creating and enhancing the visitors’ experience, through tours and also information packages. During the operating season at the Big Nickel Mine, I served as staff supervisor, responsible for scheduling 15-20 staff as well as daily operating of the facility. I acted as interim manager of the facility over the winter months, and sat on the board during the hiring of a new manager.
1991-1992 Ontario Ministry Of Northern Development and Mines.
Contract Geologist
Initially performed data entry and general map revisions and updates with AUTOCAD, utilizing dBase and various AUTOCAD programs and applications. I was then involved in a historical research project as well as serving on the P.E.P. (Public Education Program) team during the development and early implementation phases, teaching the public about mining, geology and the environment.
1988-1991 GML Minerals Consulting Ltd.
Project Geologist
While employed by GML Minerals, I worked all across western Canada on a number of projects. I started as a geologist, and finished as project geologist, with the included responsibilities of supervisory duties, camp maintenance, and supply/expediting for three to seven man fly camps, as well as larger drill jobs.
My work entailed prospecting, soil-geochemical program design and implementation, reconnaissance, grid, trench and detailed surface mapping, and drill-site geologist. I worked on properties ranging from placer gold/PGE’s (Cottonwood, BC), base metal (Rob Project, Copper Canyon, Copper Penny, BC) and gold (Rob Project, BC; Lasthope Lake Project, Lynn Lake, Man; Shoal Lake, Ont.).
While on the placer property, I helped develop a portable concentrator and milling facility to test for gold values on site. We processed our own materials, beginning with our own trammel, Nelson Concentrator, ball mills, gold genie and a Hg/HNO3 fire extraction furnace. We also pioneered the use of a caisson drill (48”) for placer deposit exploration. As part of my job, I was required to operate a D-6, D-7 dozers, Bobcat, 600-series loader, 200-Series hoe, and various other excavation equipment.
1987, Self Employed.
Performed contract work for property holders in the Ottawa Valley to inform them of the geological history and potential (graphite, feldspar, paleontological, marble, etc.) of their properties. Researched and compiled all relevant information necessary to produce a report to assist the property holders in deciding if they had the assets to start a small cottage industry.
1985, 1986 Monopros Ltd.
Geological Assistant (1985) / Geologist (1986)
Collected, described, and mapped quaternary sediments in the search for diamonds. Processed samples on-site using screen separation and gravitational methods to produce a heavy mineral concentrate. The concentrate was analysed for kimberlite indicator minerals and used to generate a mineral train back to the source. During 1986 I worked as a geologist, with duties including collection of stream sediment samples, mapping, and the supervision of an eleven-man processing operation.
1981-1984 MOE, MNR, National Museums of Canada
Summer Student, Co-Op Student
