Dry Branch Kaolin Company's (DBK) principal business was kaolin. At the time of my departure DBK employed approximately 650 people (including Rio Capim) and had annual sales of approximately $150,000,000. I left DBK shortly after the merger of DBK and English China Clay Company (ECC) as the DBK management was being replaced with ECC management.

May 1997 to September 1999 - Manager of Engineering, Dry Branch Kaolin Company

I reported to the VP of Operations. Reporting to me were the Manager of Process Engineering, the Manager of Project Engineering, and the Manager of Quality Engineering.

In addition to process engineering responsibilities and I took over Quality Engineering and construction management functions for Dry Branch Plant, Rio Capim Caulim, Jeffersonville Plant, and the ocean terminals.
Designed and began plant expansion for Rio Capim Caulim in Brazil
Conducted logistic study and site selection study for Brazilian kaolin ocean terminal in north eastern U.S.
Designed and built ocean freighter terminals in Portland, Maine and Port Royal, South Carolina for importing Brazilian kaolin slurry into North America.
Evaluated potential acquisitions of other industrial minerals companies.

January 1991 to May 1997 - Manager of Process Engineering, Dry Branch Kaolin Company

I reported to the VP of Operations. Reporting to me were the Pilot Plant Manager and the Process, Improvement, and Development Lab Supervisor.
Developed and patented chemical augmented magnetic separation process for producing high brightness clays from Georgia crudes.
Designed processes for 450,000 tpy plant expansion in Dry Branch
Systematically optimized productivity of Dry Branch plant unit operations.
As a member of the 10 person DBK Management Committee helped guide the company from being a 550,000 tpy kaolin company to a 1,500,000 tpy kaolin company by expanding Dry Branch Plant, acquiring Nord Kaolin Company (now known as Jeffersonville Plant), and acquiring Rio Capim Caulim in Brazil.
June 1980 - January 1991 - Georgia Kaolin Company, Inc.

Georgia Kaolin Company (GK) at the time of acquisition by English China Clay Company (ECC) was in the kaolin and precipitated calcium carbonate business. The company employed around 800 people and had total annual sales of approximately $175,000,000. Dry Branch Kaolin Company(DBK) was spun off from GK at the time of the ECC acquisition. I immediately resigned from ECC so that I could join the DBK team. The DBK management team consisted of the former senior management of GK.

October 1989 to January 1991 - Vice President of Engineering, GK Carbonate Company (PCC Division of Georgia Kaolin Company), Tacoma, WA

I reported to the President of GK Carbonate Company. Reporting to me were the Manager of Project Engineering and the Manager of Process Engineering
Completed successful start up of 60,000 tpy precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) plant at St. Helens, Oregon.
Played instrumental role in successful negotiations of PCC supply contracts with James River Corp. at Groveton, NH. and with Willamette Corp. at Bennettsville, SC.
Completed design, within budget construction, and on time start ups of PCC plants at Groveton, NH. and Bennettsville, SC.
Studied economic feasibility of PCC satellite plants. Prepared and presented price proposals to paper mills for 11 other sites in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and Australia.
Eight (8) of these sites were still under consideration by paper companies at the time of sale of Georgia Kaolin Co. to English China Clay Co.

July 1985 to October 1989 - Manager of Engineering, Georgia Kaolin Company - Sandersville Plant, Sandersville, GA

I reported to the Plant Manager. Reporting to me were 3 staff engineers, 1 draftsman, a lab supervisor, and the electrical and instrumentation shop supervisor.
Developed final system design for and managed construction and start up of first continuous evaporator in the kaolin industry.
Developed process design for and managed construction and start up of air float kaolin plant. (Sandersville Clay Company)
Managed all capital budgeting and spending at Sandersville Plant, Wrens Plant, and Sandersville Clay Company.
