POSITION: Plant Manager, Africa.
Based in Accra, Ghana I am required to visit all BCM sites located in Ghana, Guinea, Mali and Niger. The position is in charge of over 400 large mining machines, including 100-250 t excavators, 75 t & 100 t trucks and large dozers. BCM operates mainly Caterpillar equipment and undertakes regular scheduled service programmes.
Duties include:
* To be responsible to the CEO for the cost effective maintenance and availability of group plant.
* To control and effectively allocate plant to all sites to meet the operational requirements of each project.
* To maintain efficient operations by ensuring high availability of plant to ensure the maintenance of plant to manufacturers specs
* To ensure that the plant and maintenance staff meets international O.H & S.
* To assess and rationalize surplus equipment and recommend disposals to the board
* To participate in the evaluation and selection of new equipment for new and existing projects.
* To co-ordinate plant and workshop managers on all BCM sites.
* To ensure communications and optimum plant utilisation.
* To control and monitor all Mainpac installations and maintain a central register of plant parts, orders and purchase requisitions.
* To assist local management and overview maintenance operations
* To contribute to and liaise with procurement functions as required
* To support and liaise with project management.
COMPANY: Ok Tedi Mining Ltd.- Papua New Guinea.
PERIOD: January 2002 – September 2004.
POSITION: Advisor – Production Maintenance.
I am charged with providing strategic advice to the Team Coordinator (Superintendent) and Team Leaders in the mobile equipment maintenance section, i.e., all mobile equipment, shovels & drills, on all issues relating to maintenance management & planning, contract management, budgets and cost controls. I also, provide effective advice to ensure optimum mobile equipment availability and reliability for the mine operations unit. I examine reliability trends as they affect the mobile equipment maintenance operations and proactively recommend activities to minimize risks and optimize short & long term opportunities. I am also assisting the mobile equipment maintenance teams in the achievement of continuous improvement. A prime function of this position is to provide training, guidance & mentoring for PNG National employees in all aspects of the mobile equipment maintenance operations, including contract management and cost performance. Further, a significant part of my charter is to redress ailing vendor support. I also wrote the maintenance base case, maintenance requirements and aided in developing the technical specifications as well as other schedules for a USD80M HME capitol replacement tender. Most recently I have implemented a restructure and reliability program to rectify poor maintenance performance and increase equipment availability.
COMPANY: Finning (Chile) Ltd. - Santiago.
PERIOD: March 2001 – August 2002.
POSITION: Branch Manager, Minera Escondida.
Manage the day to day operations of a fleet of Caterpillar (14) 797 haul trucks as well as a fleet of 45 x 793 trucks and various support machines. Ensure profitability of MARC and Branch operations at the world's largest copper mine. Initiate KPI's to measure site support performance. Initiate a "Task Force Tripartite Alliance", MEL - Finning - Cat approach to Project Management of the 797 and 793 truck fleets to increase availability, reduce cash cost per ton hauled and improve the return on capitol investment of those fleets. Identify and develop profitable business opportunities e.g., U/C, Cond. Monitoring & GET MARC's. Develop local employees. I made significant improvements to physical availability, safety and customer relations. Lead a team of local and expatriate managers in writing a plan to improve the reliability of the 797 haul truck.

POSITION: Commercial & Support Rep.
On this assignment I am a District Representative, resident in Bangkok and as such am responsible for the Machine Sales & Commercial activities in Myanmar and Vietnam and, also Parts & Service Marketing responsibilities for Vietnam. In addition, I have taken on the leadership role for the Letpadaung Mining Project in Myanmar. Other duties include Caterpillar District staff development as regards Product Support and Machine Application and development of dealer Service Dept. accounting processes. I also play a consultancy role in the Mae Moh Lignite Mine as well as other projects in the aforementioned countries. Through my involvement our Myanmar dealer currently enjoys 60+% PINS and in Vietnam the dealer has 38% PINS.
COMPANY: Caterpillar Asia Pte Ltd. - Singapore
PERIOD: January 1998 - January 2000.
POSITION: Product Engineer - Off Highway Trucks.
Singapore stationed, in this position I am the prime contact for all Asia, with the exception of Indonesia, as regards marketing support for mining trucks. At the time of writing I am coordinating Dealer support and performance at the San Roque Hydro Dam site in the Philippine Islands. My assistance to both end users and the Caterpillar Dealer has resulted in a significant increase in PINS in the Philippine Islands. In Thailand, I am charged with ensuring that the Dealer develops a Project Management team, customer support strategy and product support marketing initiatives for the Mae Moh Lignite mine. I frequently travel to Mongolia where I initiated a US$10M equipment sale for an alluvial Gold mining venture. I was also part of a team that developed a bankable MARC worth a total of US$96M for a Copper mine in Myanmar. And, completed a successful mine site machine maintenance and operations evaluation at West Bokaro Colliery in Bihar State, India
COMPANY: P.T. United Tractors. - Jakarta, Indonesia. (Komatsu Mining Equip)
PERIOD: February 1997 - December 1997.
POSITION: Maintenance Manager. - Indominco Coal Mine. Account Manager - Pamapersada.
Assigned to the Mining Division and based in Jakarta, it was my prime purpose to develop a maintenance philosophy and culture within the Pamapersada organization, the largest mining contractor in the archipelago with 1200+ machines. During this period I introduced machine condition monitoring and predictive maintenance and scheduling techniques. I also assisted in machine application, operation and utilization primarily at the Bontang, Indominco and Adaro mine sites. Similarly, I was also involved in site support through evaluation and follow up with proposals and implementation of effective manpower utilization and organization. Whilst in Jakarta I oversaw the final assembly and commissioning of a large fleet of Kenworth tractor - trailer type coal haulers for the BHP Senakin coal mine.
COMPANY: Pacific Waste Management. - Brisbane, Australia
PERIOD: April 1996 - February 1997.
POSITION: Maintenance Manager (Caterpillar & on hi-way fleets)
The functionality of this role is to supervise and control all aspects of the operation and maintenance of the entire transport and earth moving and compaction fleet. It involves liaison with vendors, contractors and company personnel. This covers areas such as maintenance contracts, vendor support and staff training and development. Therefore, the position requires me to communicate and negotiate with the aforementioned entities as well as ensure optimum operator skills through effective training programs as necessary. I have also developed and implemented maintenance procedures and a CMM package to ensure optimum fleet availability in an extremely harsh and demanding environment. Budgeting and analyzing monthly profit and loss statements to identify improvements to gross profits was also a significant part of my task. My most significant achievement at PWM was to re negotiate a maintenance contract resulting in both a cost saving of 40+% and improved machine availability. I also saved 68% of budgeted tire costs through development and implementing a tire management program.
COMPANY: P.T.Freeport Indonesia. - Irian Jaya, Indonesia. (Caterpillar fleet)
PERIOD: March 1995 - March 1996.
POSITION: Senior Maintenance Planner.
Contracted to P.T.F.I. at their Grassberg mine site in Irian Jaya, it was initially my function to establish an efficient on site parts ordering and delivery system. Also, to ensure correct scheduling of major component rebuild to be undertaken by national staff and to ensure prompt work flow and turn around times in order to maximise equipment availability. While in this position I was directly charged with the responsibility for rationalization of the 793B parts inventory and oversaw the implementation of the MIMS CMMS package. During my contract period I also implemented a number of management processes by which to monitor and control various aspects of job and parts flow. These systems were adopted successfully by the Mine Mobile Equipment Maintenance Department with significant cost benefits; in the case of undercarriage savings of U$100K per annum were realized.

The prime function of this role is focused on achieving and exceeding profit margins and developing parts and service sales while keeping operating expenses within forecast limits. Responsibilities include the implementation of national product support policies and procedures and the efficient execution of all prescribed tasks as outlined to dealer parts and service departments. Also, to organize, plan, develop and review all related product support activities in the Queensland region. My charter also included the management, approval and authorization of warranty and policy as well as to organise and coordinate dealer service and parts training.
