EMPLOYMENT HISTORY:
January 2002 to Date: United Nations Peace Keeping Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) – MONUC.

Position: Field Service Officer

Since March 2005 Mission representative officer for Dar Es Salaam reporting to Mission HQ in Kinshasa and UNHQ in New York: supervision of smooth transit through Dar Es Salaam of all UN Cargoes on deployment to the Mission Area from Free on Board (FOB) vessels arriving in Port to final loading on board transport assets en route to DRC.
Responsibilities:
* Surveying of all cargoes, tasking of transport assets, ISO 9000 audits of contractors and service providers.
* Supervise the storage and distribution of fresh, frozen and dry rations for UN Military contingents in Eastern DRC, currently 15000 men from 12 different countries.
* Attend loading of vessels on behalf of UNHQ New York for shipping equipment to mission area: South America, West Africa and the Indian Sub Continent.
* Attend meetings with Tanzanian Government Officials at Ministerial and Presidential level on related issues such as International cooperation, Security, Tax and Duty exemptions on imported and transit goods.

Officer in charge of Movement Control Kisangani Logistics base: The Site was opened at the Onatra River Port in March 2002 and until January 2005 Kisangani was the principal transit hub for cargo and passengers travelling through the mission area of Eastern DRC.
Responsibilities:
* Co-ordinated overall operational management for all Movement Control activities in Eastern DRC, Uganda and Rwanda covering 9 Airports / Airfields and numerous Helicopter sites.
* During January to December 2004 managed a team of: 35 International Contractors, 14 Military, 15 National staff and 3 International UN staff, handling:
- 5,300 flights both fixed and rotary wing carrying a total of 64,910 passengers.
- 21,198 tonnes of cargo through its Area of Responsibility.
* Cargo consisted of:
- Vehicles o Mobile equipment o Military stores (including ammunition & explosives)
- Petroleum products (bulk & packed)
- Rations (fresh, frozen & dry for 15,000 troops)
- Medical stores (equipment for 2 Military field hospitals)
- All Dangerous Goods moved under IATA regulations
* Plan, prioritise, coordinate and monitor movement tasks.
* Allocate and delegate tasks as required to each Movement Control element in the Sector, whilst ensuring safe, efficient and economical movement support was provided to meet operational and administrative requirements of the mission.

* As Head of Section was required to ensure that UN contractors operated within the terms of the agreement and the United Nations regulations. This was achieved through regular performance appraisals/ audits and the setting of key performance indicators. Targeted achievements included setting up of control procedures for all transit cargo and personnel baggage to achieve loss error rate of 0.3%.
* Cargo and passenger statistics provided to Chief Movement Control Officer (based at Mission Headquarters in Kinshasa) at the end of each calendar month.
* Management functions performed in relation to personnel administration: including recruitment and training of local staff and International supervisors to ensure up to date cognisance of 'best practice and safety regulations'. The policy of regular performance appraisals and clearly defined training courses avoided wastage and ensured employees were fully aware of their standing and importance.

November 1995 to December 2001: STG Limited/ RJ Transport Services

Position: Self-employed company Director

STG Limited/ RJ Transport Services specialised in the shipping of project cargo in West Africa and the former Soviet Bloc countries.
* Set up business, with annual turnover of GBP 750,000, with a strong portfolio of clients from Freight Forwarding, Oil & Gas, Construction and Manufacturing sectors.
* Represented several clients as Cargo Superintendent, where specialist technical input was required at points of loading and final delivery. Also employed as consultant for business development and exploration of new markets. This included frequent visits to Russia, Finland, Ukraine and Kazakhstan for site meetings with end user clients and negotiations with National Government Agencies.
* Provided freight forwarding services for the movement of non standard cargo
* In 1999 the Limited Company was voluntarily liquidated.
* As a 'sole trader' a small select group of clients received continuing service.

December 1994 to October 1995: Elycourt Limited, Moscow

Position: General Manager - Logistics Division

Mandate was to implement Western European operating systems and the modernisation of 2 sites, each consisting of 50,000sqm warehousing for imported foods (fresh produce, frozen meat, dairy, poultry and dry packaged products) into old Soviet style infrastructures and manage a multi million dollar investment program from Swiss parent company. Each site had an annual turnover in excess of USD 6 million with high profitability. As General Manager in charge of Logistics Division I attended weekly board meetings and reported direct to the CEO of the company.

Responsibilities:
Managed the introduction of new cargo handling equipment, Multi level pallet racking systems and brought in specialist instructors from suppliers to train workforce.
* Settup separate department to manage transportation and distribution to International Clients in CIS principally Oil Exploration and Petroleum Companies who needed large quantities of food for their camps. Escorted convoys of temperature controlled goods equipped with satellite tracking were despatched weekly to sub contracted warehouses or direct to location according to sensitivity of goods and customer instructions.
* Stock rotation and temperature controlled segregation to ensure product longevity, freshness and optimise profitability.
* In conjunction with the Commercial Director identification of new key client accounts such as major Hotel Chains, Diplomatic commissaries and retail outlets. These new accounts provided the additional income to cover the costs of computerised stock control systems and infrastructure within 6 months.
* Setting up an effective junior management structure with devolved responsibilities. Employees were encouraged to make contributions towards improvements. This gave a sense of belonging to all and staff morale and productivity improved.
* Implemented western style shift patterns to increase flexibility of working and providing framework for staff to work overtime and earn profit related bonuses. This avoided the need to make cuts in staffing levels and overall was the most significant operational improvement.
* Attended specialist training courses with Geest Bananas & ASDA in UK, all new ideas were initially tested and modified before full incorporation.
* Established the performance criteria for ISO 9000 accreditation.

October 1993 to October 1994: Brawal Shipping Ltd (partner of Baco-Liner GmbH)

Position: General Manager - Harbour craft and Barge Operations

Brawal's main operating centres are at Lagos, Warri and Port Harcourt in Nigeria, supporting major Petroleum Industry clients. Brawal also operated in other major ports in West Africa.
Responsibilities:
* To improve level of service in Niger Delta Oilfield Region specifically in relation to key accounts with AGIP, Shell and ELF Petroleum. Using available assets within the group set up turn key operation from Clients' suppliers in Europe to final delivery on site in Nigeria providing greater tracking and control of individual shipments, single point invoicing and more effective cost control.
* Strategic reviews with key clients at regular intervals ensured a consistent level of performance and provided sounding boards for all parties. Time flow charts and statistical
Information showed where key point indicators were being achieved or missed and corrective measures could be put in place as appropriate.

* Tasked with management of a US$10 million investment program covering cargo handling equipment and maritime assets from Europe and North America.

May 1991 to September 1993: Rezayat Group, Saudi Arabia & Kuwait

Position: Operations Manager – Various operating sites in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.

Rezayat are one of the Gulf Regions biggest shipping and transportation companies with one of the busiest operating sites in Dammam Port, handling over 500 individual truck movements per day.
Responsibilities:
* Re-structured the transport division of over 500 drivers, 200 technicians and support staff transferring key personnel within Groups 6 major operating centres. The movement of specific assets was undertaken to maximise utilisation and reduce maintenance costs.
* In conjunction with the Chief Engineering Manager undertook a complete assessment of all equipment held on the company books to ascertain serviceability and operational suitability. A significant amount of unserviceable material was written off as being beyond economic repair and savings in maintenance costs used to part finance new equipment.
* Identifying key growth markets in Kuwait and winning several major contracts with companies such as Haliburton, Brown and Root, Caterpillar and Kuwait Oil Company ensured stand alone profitability within the Group.

April 1983 to April 1991: British Army (Various Global Posting)

Position: Movements Controller - Port and Maritime specialist

Last 2 years based in Antwerp in charge of ship handling operations and the movement of all non standard cargo throughout Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg and Northern France.
Played representative Rugby for British Army in Germany and was member of British Army Mountaineering Association.

HOBBIES & INTERESTS:
