Experience Summary
I have 27 years of experience in all facets of contracting, mine construction, mining, and mineral processing as Project Engineer, Operations Manager, and President/General Manager. My work history includes managing, constructing, and operating mines and process facilities in quarry, open pit, and underground operations in a wide range of mineral types including industrial minerals, base metal, and coal. I have extensive foreign and domestic experience that ranges from operating and capital cost estimating, conducting feasibility studies to design-build, mine startup, operations, contract management, and closure. In addition, I have managed teams of professionals in business development and engineers in implementing methods and systems to improve productivity and profitability throughout the industry.
Work Experience
1999-2003 Projects General Manager
Washington Group International (formerly Morrison Knudsen)—Boise, Idaho
Responsibilities include project planning, cost and productivity analyses, contract management, and operations management. Domestic projects include Alabama limestone contract mining development, Idaho phosphate and silica mining and crushing facilities, Arizona open pit copper mining, Washington and Wyoming topsoil reclamation projects, and Utah tar sands mining. International projects include Venezuelan coal mine reorganization, Czech Republic coal handling facilities, Bolivian Polymetalic mine, Indonesian port, haulage, and coal handling facilities, Turkish coal mine feasibility, Jamaican Bauxite contract mining, and German coal mine capital evaluation and productivity improvements.
1997-99 Mine Design Engineering Manager
Morrison Knudesn Corporation—Boise, Idaho
Responsibilities included project planning, cost, analysis, processing systems design, equipment selection, and project set-up. Projects included the feasibility of developing the Geneva Iron Ore deposit, cost estimates for contract mining and mineral processing, evaluation of the potential of the Lorencito Coal project, and the capital and operating costs for the AMT International Copper project. Also assisted other divisions within MK in evaluating field operational productivity at West Dam project in California.

Managed the corporate affairs for the company, specializing in providing turnkey contract mining services to industry. The services included site development, facilities construction, waste and ore mining, product crushing and screening, and material processing. Primary responsibilities included contract management, operations oversight, safety, scheduling, and budgeting.

Responsibilities included project cost estimating, crushing plant designs, preparation and awarding of bid documents, oversight of Industrial Minerals department, and operations liaison.
1986-88 Operations Superintendent
Lost Dutchman Construction
Responsible for all field operations including four operating mine sites. Responsibilities included job management, safety, construction, drilling and blasting activities, mining, crushing, and front-line supervision.
1984-86 Project Manager
Dynatech Mining Contractors—Denver, Colorado
Responsibilities included conceptual and detailed designs of a 14-ft diameter × 1,000-ft deep mine production shaft. Primary duties included operations management, preparation and awarding of tender documents to subcontractors for facility construction, and erection of hoist and headframe facilities.
1980-84 Project Engineer to Project Superintendent
J.S. Redpath - Phoenix, Arizona
Progressively higher responsibilities ranging from Project Engineer to Project Superintendent on underground mine development projects. Engineering duties include surveying and alignment of mine shafts and underground development, design of dewatering and grouting systems, and installation of surface and underground facilities. Supervision included front-line supervision of crews ranging in size from 10 to 100. Underground activities included shaft sinking, rail and rubber tire haulage development, raise boring, diamond drilling, drilling and blasting, concrete construction, and utilities installation.

Underground engineering for the development of the ventilation shaft and lower levels for Vertical Crater Retreat mining method.
1977-79 Mine Engineer
Gulf Mineral Resources—Grants, New Mexico
Responsibilities included design and installation of depressurizing water well system, underground pumping systems, grouting systems, and underground mine development at the Mt. Taylor Uranium Mine.
