Seconded to a commercial team (reporting to the Vice President Projects – Commercial), held an analyst role in the financing of the $2 billion Cerro Casale project in Chile, as well as in the financial/economic evaluation of the proposed $1 billion Pueblo Viejo project in the Dominican Republic.

Provided technical and financial analysis support to Placer Dome Inc business units worldwide, including analysis of proposed new business ventures in both open pit and underground environments. Assisted on the South Deep Life-of-Mine Plan, Johannesburg, South Africa. Evaluated trade-offs and potential transition from open pit to underground mining techniques at Bald Mtn and Cortez-Pipeline Mines. Conceptualized the mine plan and underground capital improvement projects for restarting the Turquoise Ridge Operations and oversaw preparation of the mine plan adding over $50 million in NPV to Placer Dome Inc’s account. Designated as the QP (Qualified Person for NI 43-101 purposes) signing off on 2.7 million ounces of Mineral Reserves, and assisted with expediting the restart of Turquoise Ridge Operations.

CHIEF ENGINEER - Getchell Gold Project
Golconda, Nevada. Apr 01 to Jan 02
Reported to the Mine General Manager, and managed a staff of 6 mining engineers and 1 surveyor with a 2001 operating budget of nearly $2 million. Successfully integrated and aligned engineering functions with strategic business planning. Oversaw the preparation of the mining portion of the Getchell Prefeasibility Study and the business unit Strategic Business Plan. These efforts included oversight of $1 million in consulting engineering contracts. Significant challenges were the definition of systems to overcome difficult underground operating conditions and the evaluation of reopening the Getchell property in a low gold price environment while clearing corporate financial hurdles.

MINING STUDY COORDINATOR - Getchell Gold Project
Golconda, Nevada. June 99 to Apr 01
Coordinated mine-related evaluation efforts and prepared life-of-mine Strategic Business Plans for the Getchell Gold Project subsequent to the acquisition of Getchell Gold by Placer Dome. Coordination efforts included reserve estimations, conceptualization of underground and potential open pit mine systems architecture and materials handling infrastructure, preparation of development and production plans and schedules, and estimation of operating and capital costs. Preparation of the Strategic Business Plans included spreadsheet modeling of pro-forma income statements, balance sheets and cash flow statements, and financial analyses leading to strategic recommendations to executive management.

CHIEF MINE ENGINEER - Getchell Gold Project
Golconda, Nevada. May 97 to June 99
Oversaw the departmental activities of long and short-term mine planning, development and production scheduling, management reporting, rock mechanics studies, ventilation designs, and engineering oversight on capital projects. Supervised a staff of 7 mining engineers, 2 technicians and 4 surveyors.

SENIOR MINE ENGINEER - Turquoise Ridge Project
Golconda, Nevada. September 96 to May 97
Coordinated engineering/design, procurement and construction activities of over $7 million in capital projects for a twin-shaft (1800-ft deep) gold mine under development. Projects included a $3.0 million cemented rockfill system, a $2.7 million 38,000 square-ft. office/changehouse facility, and a $1.6 million 20,000 square-ft. warehouse. Also prepared underground equipment evaluations and mine plans using Vulcan mine design software, and performed field engineering for shaft sinking activities.

w/ ASHANTI GOLDFIELDS COMPANY LTD

SENIOR PROJECT ENGINEER - Backfill
Obuasi, Ghana, West Africa. April 95 to August 96
Oversaw engineering, procurement, plant construction, underground development and installation of a mine wide hydraulic backfill system, with responsibility for a $22.2 million capital budget. JCI, (the EPCM contractor), reported directly to me (project management role not reflected in job title). Responsibility covered the installation of a 200 tonnes/hour Tailings Treatment Plant, two overland transport slurry pipelines, and two 200-tonnes/hour hydraulic fill prep plants as part of a major expansion and capitalization of Ashanti’s Obuasi deep shaft gold mine (production rate of 1.6m tpa increasing to 3.8m tpa).

w/ NEWMONT GOLD COMPANY

CHIEF UNDERGOUND MINE ENGINEER, Rain & Carlin Main U/G Mines
Carlin, Nevada. April 94 to April 95.
Held the role of Project Superintendent of the Rain U/G Mine (144,000 tpa), successfully managing an underground mine contractor and developing the Rain Mine into a profitable, safe 400 tons/day operation on schedule and on budget ($5.3 million annual operating budget). Although the Rain Mine had the lowest grade of the three Newmont underground mines under development at the time, it had the lowest unit costs and highest productivities. Simultaneously maintained the position of Chief Underground Mine Engineer, supervising a 4-man survey crew, 1 mining engineer, and 2 mine geologists at the Rain Mine. Used Vulcan mine planning software in the preparation of life-of-mine designs.

w/ HECLA MINING COMPANY

SENIOR PROJECT ENGINEER / UNDERGROUND MINE SUPT., Grouse Creek Project
Stanley, Idaho. February 93 to February 94.
Prepared mine plans, engineering/cost studies, and proforma cash flow analyses prior to start-up of the construction of the 2.1m tpa open pit and underground Grouse Creek Mine. Subsequently managed and directed the preproduction development and surface facilities construction of the underground mine (140,000 tpa) portion of the Grouse Creek Project. Was responsible for a $6.0 million capital budget, a workforce of 21 miners and surface construction contractors.

SENIOR MINING ENGINEER & PROJECT ENGINEER, Hecla Mining Company Corporate Office
Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. October 90 to February 93.
Prepared conceptual mine plans, designs, engineering/cost studies, proforma cash flow analyses, and other due diligence work for corporate projects and potential acquisitions. Projects included underground mines and open pit heap leach proposals. Coordinated engineering consultants for a major 4+ million-cubic-yards earthworks project (site prep and tailings impoundment areas) at the Grouse Creek Mine. Played a key role in the conceptualization, engineering, procurement, construction supervision, and commissioning of a $0.5 million cemented alluvial backfill plant at the Republic Mine, Washington. Prepared operating cost models to support the successful introduction of mechanized cut-and-fill mining at the Republic Mine.

w/ RENISON GOLDFIELDS CONSOLIDATED (RGC)

ASST UNDERGROUND MINE SUPT, Porgera Joint Venture (Joint Venturers: RGC, Mt Isa Mines, Placer Dome & PNG Gov’t)
Placer (PNG) Pty LTD, Papua New Guinea. June 89 to September 90.
Controlled and directed the underground mine operations, (alternating with the Underground Mine Superintendent), for the underground Porgera gold mine (550,000 tpa). Jointly managed (with the Underground Mine Superintendent) a workforce of over 100 employees, and met development targets of 350 meters per month. Developed and implemented operating procedures. Prepared operating and capital budgets. Evaluated & optimized a plan to increase mine production from 1500 to 3500 tonnes/day. Coordinated design consultants and contractors for an underground crusher installation, a vertical conveyor shaft hoist, a cement slurry plant, underground conveyors, and a major raise-boring contract.

Tasmania, Australia. March 89 to April 89.
Supervised 3 mine planning engineers and 1 technician for a 900,000 tpa underground tin mine.

UNDERGROUND MINER & SHIFT BOSS, Renison Mine.

Worked 6 mo. as an underground miner and 7 mo. as an underground shift supervisor (over 20 miners) in both development and production activities in fulfillment of Mine Manager's Certificate requirements.

Managed the U/G Mine Dept. Projects and Planning section for the Main, Croesus, and Paringa Shafts on the Fimiston Lease (220,000 tpa underground gold). Supervised 5 mining engineers in the rationalization of transport and stoping operations, and preparation of mine plans and schedules. Prepared cash flow analyses for pre-feasibility expansion studies.

w/ SUNSHINE MINING COMPANY

CHIEF ENGINEER, Silver Peak Operations.
Silver Peak, Nevada. July 80 to October 86.
Played a key role in bringing the 250,000 tpa 16-To-1 Mine from the exploration stage through development to full operation. Stayed with the project until closure. Oversaw one mining engineer and one surveyor in the preparation of mine plans and designs. Supervised and coordinated surface and underground plant construction (including tailings dam lifts), performed surface and underground surveying, prepared pre-feasibility studies for reopening the Nivloc Mine, maintained the Nevada State and Federal permits for the operation, and oversaw the activities of an open pit mining contractor at the nearby Weepah Mine.

ROCK MECHANICS ENGINEER, Sunshine Mine
Kellogg, Idaho. June 78 to July 80.
Maintained the micro seismic monitoring system and performed entry-level project engineering at the mile-deep, century-old Sunshine underground silver mine. Mining methods included square-set cut-and-fill, using hydraulic sandfill.
