Shell Canada Limited Fort McMurray, Alberta July 2005 – Present

Projects Buyer/Contracts

Reporting directly to the Team Lead, Contracts and Procurement (C&P), with key responsibility for the strategic procurement, sourcing, and negotiation of goods and services for Albian Sands Energy. This includes the negotiation, development, and administration of service contracts, and stocking agreements. I am also responsible for the procurement, and expediting of goods, services, and engineered equipment. I began working in the Maintenance and Operations group at the base plant for roughly a year and a half and have since moved to the Projects Team. In this Projects Team I have taken on much larger roles, such as acting as a Coordinator on some of our smaller projects, and taking on various Contracting and Procurement Team Lead responsibilities. Albian Sands Energy Inc. is the operator of the Muskeg River Mine Site owned by Shell Canada, Chevron, and Western Oil Sands. At full capacity the mine site produces over 180,000 bpd of bitumen which is transported to Fort Saskatchewan for upgrading and refining.

Accomplishments

- Shell Canada Top Performer placing me in the 95th percentile of all Shell Canada Employees
- Acted as the C&P lead for a major maintenance initiative to replace a severely damaged conveyor belt which had Albian Sands at reduced operating capacity of 150,000 barrels a day for approximately one month
- Was a lead member of C&P for our 2006 Maintenance Turnaround which ran for over three months
- Presently working as the Procurement Lead on projects in the $150 million range
- Administered contracts in the $75 million range
- Have contributed over $5 million in cost savings and cost avoidances

PLH Aviation Services Halifax, Nova Scotia June 2003 – May 2005
Operations Coordinator:
Reporting directly to Operations Supervisor, with responsibilities for the leadership and management of a team of six refuellers including scheduling, planning, organizing, and controlling all operational activities, managing human resources, and ensuring that all operational activities occurred. This involved scheduling workers for incoming aircraft and ensuring all flights departed on time with respect to fueling. I was responsible for quality assurance, and scheduling of maintenance activities on all fueling and light vehicles. This required excellent problem solving and delegation skills, the ability to multi task, and considerable knowledge of flight information systems and Emergency Response Planning. Other duties included completing airline fuel balances, handling customer inquiries and complaints, truck volume closures, fuel gain and loss boards, managing fuel inventory, completing daily sales summaries, flight counts, and implementing tests on the underground pipeline to ensure there were no leakages.

Accomplishments

- Worked full time while attending Dalhousie University full time working towards my Bachelor of Management Degree.
- Had zero aircraft delays for myself or staff while on shift
- Acted as Operations Supervisor outside of normal working hours
- Supervised fellow employees in a union environment

PLH Aviation Services Halifax, Nova Scotia May 2002 – June 2003

Aircraft Refueller

Responsibilities included refueling aircraft for major airlines, aviation fuel testing, operating heavy machinery, and various other duties involved with aircraft refueling. This required excellent time management skills, ability to work independently, and as a team, and have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills. This also required the ability to work efficiently and safely in a fast paced environment in accordance with Transport Canada regulations and the Transportation of Hazardous Goods act.

Accomplishments

- Had zero aircraft delays or fuel spills
- Was employee of the month on two occasions
- Worked as a Relief Operations Coordinator

PLH Aviation Services Halifax, Nova Scotia September, 2001 - December 2001

Duties included testing aviation fuel through performing chemistry related tasks, performing daily quality insurance checks on storage fuel, tanks, and equipment, correctly interpreting test results, and working as a team member. Maintain and carry out various tank farm operations.
Calgary Hockey Development Calgary, Alberta August, 2001, 2002
Head Hockey School Instructor
Responsibilities included implementing the Calgary Hockey Development curriculum and teaching power skating in the evenings to thirty students, as well as guiding them through off-ice activities. I taught young children both hockey, and life skills, and was a role model to them. This required leadership, excellent communication and organizational skills, the ability to work unsupervised and the ability to adapt to different skill levels of the students. I also had to improvise and innovate new drills while following the curriculum to keep the children excited and satisfied.
