WORK EXPERIENCE
June 2003 – Present CHEMICAL ENGINEER, Testing Laboratory Head
CAFFCO – Golden Mountain Ceramics

* Assigned by the General Manager to negotiate with suppliers on raw material prices and quality and scouted new ones that resulted to the lowering of prices by as much as 15% - 25 %.
* QA and QC tests of incoming raw materials such as clays, glaze fluxes and stains,, thinners, paints and checks that it is within the required specifications.
* Analyzes the lead and cadmium content of ceramic items using Varian SpectAA220FS to comply with the FDA and Proposition 65 requirements.
* Conducts quality control evaluation and testing of various products coming from poly-resin and paper pulp, metal, wood product and ceramics departments.
* Checks the packaging design of items to be shipped to USA and conducts drop test on packed items as per customers' requirements.
* Coordinates with various departments regarding quality issues of finished items and recommends solutions to rectify them.
* Had undergone 3-day training at SGS-Shenzhen-China on different aspects of laboratory testing.

* Collects fuel oil and lube oil samples from various sampling points in the field and analyzes them following the appropriate ASTM standard operating procedures and recommends corrective measures whenever results are outside the required limits.
* Collects water samples and checks the following parameters using Hach's DREL 2010: pH, free and total chlorine, conductivity, total dissolved solids, total alkalinity, total hardness, calcium hardness, chlorides, total iron, free carbon dioxide, total silica, manganese and nitrites.
* Operates and maintains water treatment plants consisting of Culligan Twin-Bed water softener, a Metito reverse osmosis and Autotrol de-ionizer units and monitors the quality of water produced.
* Reviews and evaluates quotations submitted by suppliers and recommends the chemicals spares to be ordered.
* Monitors chemical usage by recording all the chemicals / spares consumed daily, to have a ready reference when preparing the annual budget of the laboratory.

* Set-up, start-up and commissioning of the Sukhaybarat Gold Mines Assay laboratory in Saudi Arabia in June 1991 under the management of Boliden Minerals.
* Assigned to head the Mahd Adh Dhahab Gold Mines Assay laboratory with 16 staffs whenever the Chief Chemist is on annual vacation.
* Recommended an alternative method in analyzing solution samples that reduced the analysis time by more than 50%.
* Monitors the inventory of chemicals / supplies to minimize unnecessary wastage.
* Prepares and manages laboratory operating budget and monitors resources to achieve program goals.
* Determines the following elements on ore samples using Pye Unicam SP9 and PU9100 Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS): copper, iron, lead, zinc, cadmium, gold and silver.
* Determines the gold and silver value of plant samples using fire assay method of analysis.
* Conducts analysis on water samples taken from Reverse Osmosis plant and swimming pool using Hach's DREL 5 & DRE 2000 Spectrometer.
* Prepares and standardizes regularly the following standard solutions: silver nitrate, hydrochloric acid, sodium hydroxide, sodium thiosulfate, potassium permanganate and sulfuric acid.
July 1983 – Feb. 1988 LABORATORY SHIFT FOREMAN

* Recommended the recycling of busted heating elements used in electric furnaces by welding them back together, which resulted in substantial savings, as the quantity of new heating elements to be ordered from abroad were reduced by 20 percent.
* Supervises and evaluates 7 laboratory personnel in a shift.
* As a contribution to the company's cost reduction program due to low metal prices in 1985, aside from being the supervisor on duty, handled the job of laboratory analyst whenever a personnel is absent. And then re-assigning the available manpower to other position that was vacated so that there will be no overtime hours incurred in the assigned shift.
* Makes monthly cost performance analysis to determine which section of the laboratory overspent / under-spent their monthly allocated budgets and submits recommendations / corrective measures to the Chief Assayer for approval.
* Familiarizes the newly hired laboratory personnel about the different types and functions of laboratory equipment / instruments, standard operating procedures and safety rules and regulations.
Jan. 1981 – July 1983 LABORATORY ANALYST

* Determines the gold and silver contents of ore and plant samples using Varian Techtron AA575, AA1475 and Spectra AA10 Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometers (AAS).
* Maintains optimum AAS performance by preparing daily a new batch of working standards needed for their calibration / standardization.
* Conducts the following analysis on used lube oil samples taken from diesel engine units and various types of heavy equipment units: A.P.I. gravity, viscosity, total acid number, total base number, water & sediment contents, pentane insoluble and flash point.
* Prepares various types of fluxes and different concentrations of nitric acid parting solution for use in fire assaying of ore samples and bullion samples.
* Prepares lead sheets required in the analysis of bullion samples.
* Determines the gold, silver and base metals in bullion samples by fire assaying.
* Makes gold and silver contents determinations on ore samples by fire assaying.
* Determines the gold and silver content on carbon samples using AAS method.
* Analyzes the cyanide content of mill pulp samples.
* Determines the moisture content in mill and ore samples.
* Analyzes the available lime content in samples by oxalic acid titration.
* Prepares chemical standard solutions required in the analysis and standardizes them regularly.
