Having achieved a First Class Honours as a Master of Geology from the University of Leeds I am now interested in pursuing a career in the mining industry. I am hardworking, a team player, able to work in hostile environments and have developed outstanding time management skills through balancing a semi-professional sport lifestyle with my academic studies.

Sport:

Rugby:
I have represented my County from Under 15 to Under 20 level, at which we won the National Under 20 Championship, playing the final at Twickenham.
I presently play for Wharfedale RUFC, in National Division Two and have also represented Leeds Tykes Academy's A-side.
At school I was captain of the Under 15 XV and won the award for the 'Most Outstanding Contribution to School Rugby' in my final year.

Other sports:
I am a keen kayaker and have instructed school summer holiday classes at my local recreation centre in the UK. I am also a keen swimmer and represented my local club regularly up until I went to University.

Travel:

I have traveled around Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Japan and Southern Africa, including Madagascar.

Relevant Experience

Playing rugby, as well as roles such as deputy head boy at school, has taught me the importance of team work. I believe this to be an important asset in any work environment.

At Leeds and Wellington I have participated in numerous field trips and undertaken individual research projects that have included six weeks of independent field work in remote mountain areas. Through these projects I have become adept at working independently, particularly in field based locations. Through fieldwork in north-west Scotland I also have experience of geological mapping and interpretation in Pre-Cambrian rocks.

In 2004, I worked on a remote marine research station based near Anakao, Madagascar. My responsibilities included monitoring the weather for research purposes, taking part in general field camp duties and participating in active research on the coral reefs of the area. The climate was particularly hot and dry, often reaching 48°C. Subsequent to this, I worked on a sheep station near Hay, NSW, Australia. These experiences have equipped me with the skills and experience to work in inhospitable climates.

I have lived in South Africa, and travelled extensively around Southern Africa, including working as a volunteer on a game reserve in northern South Africa, which has further equipped me with skills necessary to work in a hostile environment.

At university I developed the time management skills necessary to achieve a first class honours degree whilst fulfilling the training, playing and travelling commitments of National League rugby.

Additional skills:

- Full clean driving license (held for 6 years).
- Proficient typist – attended touch typing lessons for two years at school.
- Competent in the use of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Corel Draw.
