Professional Experience
February 2008- Present: Manager Metallurgical/Process Projects, Quadra Mining Ltda
I am responsible of process/metallurgy projects with the Corporate Engineering Team. I'm in charge of leading two Scoping and Pre-feasibility studies for our future process plants, (concentrator and SX-EW), one in Northern Chile and the other in Greenland. Also I lead continuous improvements projects at our operating Concentrator with direct interaction with mill manager and Superintendents. My job duties include leading consultants on Geometallurgical, Scoping, and pre-feasibility studies as well as specific site projects, like Concentrate grade improvement, gold recovery improvement and application of new technologies.
November 2007- February 2008: Concentrator Technical Superintendent, Freeport- MacMoran, Morenci Concentrator
I am responsible of safely leading a team of Metallurgical Engineers, Process Control Superintendent, Process Control Engineers and Technicians in the technical Services Dept. I was responsible for all concentrator technical aspects, production/cost budgets and forecasting, process monitoring and optimization. I am also responsible for all process control activities in the concentrator. This team works with expert systems to further optimize plant performance. Our team has improved overall mill throughput by 10% in the last 6 months by using neural networking system to self adapt to plant conditions.
Jan 2006-November 2007: Concentrator Operations Superintendent, Freeport- McMoran Morenci Concentrator
I was part of the start-up team of the Morenci Concentrator. Participate in multidisciplinary focus/project groups to solve plant-operating problems. Train new employees in the diverse operations units. In charge of safely leading 8 Shift Supervisors, 3 area supervisors, 1 labor supervisor and 115 hourly personnel to safely meet production and quality goals in a 1942 built, 72,000 TPD conventional ball mill/spiral classifier mill. Also in charge of cost/production budget/forecast for the Operating team. I'm in charge of process improvements teams and Concentrator leadership team.
Jan 2005-Jan 2006: Concentrator Operations General Supervisor, Phelps Dodge Chino Mines
In charge of safely leading 5 Supervisors, (4 Operating crews, 4 Control Room supervisors) to meet production and quality goals in a 43,000 TPD conventional plant with SAG, ball mill and Tower mills.
April 2004-Dec 2004: Senior Concentrator Metallurgist/Fill –in for Operations Superintendent, Phelps Dodge Chino Mines Company, USA
I was part of the start-up team of Chino Mines Concentrator. Supervise flotation unit operation contractors, testing, troubleshooting during re-start of operations of the 43,000 tpd copper concentrator. Participate in multidisciplinary focus/project groups to solve plant-operating problems. Train new employees in the diverse operations units.
When filling-in for Mill Operations Superintendent in charge of safely leading 8 Supervisors, ( 6 Operating crews, 6 Control Room supervisors) and one Process Control Engineer to meet production and quality goals.
December 2003-April 2004: Mine-to-Mill Ore Production Coordinator, Phelps Dodge Minera Candelaria Chile
Work was focused on safety and production goals for the mine and the mill. I was in charge of a team of three engineers developing production strategies to maximize throughput at the mine and mill. Mine planning, blast designs, SAG mill KPI´s were analyzed daily performance to increase throughput from an average of 65,000 tpd to 70,000 tpd milled.
December 2001 – December 2003: Senior Metallurgist/Chief Engineer Phelps Dodge Minera Candelaria Chile
Worked in a 70,000 tpd wrap-around SAG and conventional Ball mill concentrator with state-of-the-art equipment. Main work was focused on safely coordinating/leading a team of three Metallurgists and four Techs working on flotation, thickeners and filter plant optimization, concentrator costs, budgets, forecasting, metals inventories, and the development of a low pH reagent scheme for the flotation plant and increase in concentrate grade. Work also includes technical support to day-to-day plant operators. Other work includes tuning the Knowledge cape adaptive optimization and expert control system on rougher, cleaners and scavenger flotation areas. Developing flotation expert system in conjunction with Process control Engineers and the successful implementation of wash water system on column cells to increase concentrate grade from 29.5% to 31% Cu.
May 2001 – December 2001: Smelter Senior Process Engineer, Phelps Dodge Chino Mines Company
Position involves learning the converter/flash furnace processes. Main focus of daily work includes optimization of converters and general daily operating situations.
April - August 2001: Senior Metallurgist, Compañia Contractual Minera Candelaria Chile
On-going mill optimizations work at Phelps Dodge's Candelaria concentrator in Chile. I worked in implementing/tuning the Knowledgescape adaptive optimization and expert control system on SAG mills, ball mills and flotation. Also de project involves control room/shift supervisors training of the new rules/optimizers.
1998 – 2001: Concentrator Metallurgist, Phelps Dodge Chino Mines Company
Work in Concentrator Metallurgical Department at a 48,000 TPD conventional plant with SAG, ball mill and Tower mills. Supervise flotation testing using new reagent blends in order to investigate impact on product grades and recoveries. Solve daily metallurgical upsets at the grinding and flotation plant. Work at optimizing tailing thickeners by training and implementing control tests of the E-Duc system. Calibrate the X-ray analyzer (Outokumpu Courier C-30XP) and upgrade equations using Outocal software. Work with process control Engineer to optimize expert control used in grinding and flotation. Other experience includes working with: Knowledgescape optimizer and predictors; G-2 expert system for grinding and flotation; ABB DCS system; and using SPLIT software for SAG throughput feed size distribution. Coach/supervise met lab sampler's team. Participate in multidisciplinary focus/project groups to solve plant-operating problems.

Performed flotation tests of smelter slag to study impact on plant recovery and milling characteristics. Worked on capital projects for future mill expansion.
May – August 1997: Mining Engineer (summer employment) Phelps Dodge Chino Mines Company
Worked in mine engineering technical services updating mine maps (toe and crest) using computer software (AutoCAD 13, Med systems). Also worked with the surveying crew performing regular mine surveys (toe-crest, blast holes, dams and tailings progress, ramps, leaching pads) using Tremble GPS equipment.

Worked in Mill Technical Services, performing calibrations using Outocal software and start-up of three new on-stream X-ray Analyzers (Outokumpu Couriers C-30). Also performed supervision of contractors working in the mechanical and electrical section of the C-30 project.
