PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Apr'08; - Date
Nui Phao Mining Joint Venture Company, Thai Nguyen. Vietnam.
Metallurgical Operations Manager

Currently working with the Nuiphaovica management team as the Metallurgical Operations Manager: providing operational management expertise to the project during the pre-construction and pre-production phases. This position focuses on provision and development of vital pre-operational systems to ensure the smooth and successful commissioning of the mine into a safe and profitable entity. These have included the establishment of safety and trade training programmes with emphasis being placed on the training of a proficient local work force as part of the company's Corporate Social Responsibly programme enabling project affected communities to obtain adequate skills to operate within each of the mines business groups. Other provisions include development of operating manuals and budgets, supply-lines and evaluating add-on downstream processing routes.

Jun'07; - Mar'08;
Golden Star Resources, Bogoso Operations, Ghana.
Operations Manager - Metallurgical

Initially seconded from European Nickel Plc as a Metallurgical Consultant by the Chief Operations Officer of Golden Star to trouble shoot and change-manage the newly constructed BSEP (Bogoso Sulphide Extraction Project) plant. The process comprised of SAG comminution, sulphide flotation and what is currently the world's largest Bio-Oxidation (Biox) circuit for refractory gold (pyrite and arsenopyrite). The process is complimented by two CIL plants – one for the oxidised sulphide concentrates and one for oxide ore treatment with a joint 500,000oz p.a processing capability.

Through team-building, delegation and prioritisation, I achieved the desired production capacity of the new plant together with a number of recovery enhancing improvements to the complex circuit.

Issues included identifying and correcting causes for poor SAG throughput, poor mechanical and electrical availability (poorly trained workforce) and quality control (incomplete process control systems). Root causes were addressed in a timely and sensitive manner, bringing both the local and expatriate workforces together as an effective and coherent team. Progress continued with the redesign of the sulphide flotation circuit resulting in a 25% increase in gold recovery along with an improved ability for the workforce to control the circuit and to maintain steady performance. Emphasis then continued to focus on pushing plant boundaries by increasing mechanical and electrical availability and additional shake-down of poorly designed plant.

Key elements of success were in working at both the technical and human resource levels to provide the operations teams with the ability to prioritise and rationalise their work schedule and implement solutions to the most pressing issues.

Jul'06; - Jun'07;
European Nickel Plc, Caldag Operations, Turkey.
Production Manager

As the Production Manager at European Nickels Caldag operations my role was to assist the Owner's Team in pre-construction and production ramp-up of the 2.5Mtpa heap leach, iron and nickel precipitation circuits and the 1Mtpa sulphur burning sulphuric acid plant. At operating capacity, the operation would have produced over 21,000mt of nickel metal in concentrate per annum.

Duties included process design, layout and equipment selection. The role also involved developing sustainable operating procedures, training, logistics management, plant maintenance, production budgeting and accounting, cost control and QA/QC departments. I left the company to pursue more active production opportunities in Ghana.

Sep'03; – Jun'06;
Freeport McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc, P.T. Freeport Indonesia, Irian Jaya, Indonesia.
Manager – Mill Operations

As Manager of Mill Operations, I was responsible for the safe and efficient production of copper and gold concentrates at the world-class mining operation in Irian Jaya. Treating multiple ore types from 2 different mine complexes, the daily output ranged from 220,000 to 270,000mt/day when processed within the 4 concentrators (consisting in general of 18 ball mills, 2 x 38ft SAG mills, 14 Crushers, 7 independent flotation circuits and gravity recoverable gold circuits (Knelson concentrators) with industry leading technology and process control). The operation typically generated over 8,000mt of combined copper and gold concentrate per day with an average copper and gold content of 30%Cu, 45g/mt Au. Reporting to the Vice President of the Concentrating Division, for which I deputised when required, I had the responsibility for all mill production and safety of the 330 strong Mill Operations, Metallurgical Services and QA/QC Groups. The position required close networking with mechanical and electrical maintenance teams, as well as technical services, mine planning, safety and environment departments. My annual operating budget was typically $55 - 65 million with an annual capital improvement budget of $18million. In addition to Mill Operations, I held the divisional NOSA Safety Committee chair for which I assisted the division to attain a 4 star rating and improved 4 star rating. In 2005 I obtained the Senior Mine Managers DEMR certificate for mine management competency which in turn enabled me to act as a Deputy Technical Manager (reporting to the Indonesian Mines Inspectorate) for Freeport Indonesia.

Feb'02; - Aug'03; And Aug'98; - Mar'01;
Navan Mining plc, Chelopech Operations, Bulgaria
Manager - Mineral Processing

As Manager of Mineral Processing, Chelopech Operations, I was responsible for the competent processing of one of Europe's richest operating copper/gold ore-bodies (4.0g/mt Au & 1.6%Cu) into saleable gold and copper concentrates. Reporting to the General Manager, I had ultimate responsibility for metallurgical production and the safety of a 120 strong workforce in the 1,000,000mt/yr capacity concentrator. Sections included:-

* Mill Operations and Metallurgical Departments
* Mill Engineering and Maintenance
* Chemical and Quality Control Departments
* Environmental Department
* Tailings Management Facility and Water Supply

Over two assignments at Chelopech, I augmented significant changes within the process operation resulting improved Cu and Au recoveries of 12 and 5% respectively with reduced operating costs. Production throughput was also increased following the successful implementation of a $2.2million capital refurbishment plan of the crushing and filtration sections.

Mar'01; - Jan'02;
Navan Mining plc, Almagrera Operations, Spain
Manager - Mineral Processing

As Manager of Mineral Processing, I was responsible for the competent processing of over 1Mt of combined Complex (Cu-Pb-Zn) Ore and Cupriferous Ores from Navan's Aguas Tenidas Este and Sotiel ore-bodies. Reporting to the General Manager, I was responsible for the production of Copper, Lead and Zinc concentrates as well as a 300,000mtpa capacity pyrite roaster and acid plant. Sections include:-

* Mill Operations and Metallurgical Departments
* Pyrite Roaster and Acid Plant
* Chemical and Quality Control Departments
* Environmental Department
* Tailings Management Facilities (roaster cinders and process tailings)

My main focus within this company was to implement change-management of existing metallurgical polices, practices and mind-sets. During this period, numerous inherent processing faults were rectified including a sustainable upgrading of zinc recovery by 8% and an increase of 3% in zinc concentrate grades. Similar recovery achievements were made on the Cupriferous circuit by applying similar principles.
