ALSTOM T&D Ltd Power Electronic Systems (Stafford)

* Member of a 15-strong multidisciplinary team developing a new thyristor-based high voltage, power electronics product. Responsible for the implementation of novel passive component solutions.
* Sourcing; identification and evaluation of component suppliers and technologies, involving visits to manufacturers in Japan, Germany and around the UK.
* Technical development over a two-year period in partnership with short-listed preferred suppliers to 'tailor' passive component solutions to the application. This was brought to a successful conclusion. Special emphasis was placed on securing second sources.
* Acted as ALSTOM's 'point of contact' for all internal/external communication pertaining to passive component development on the new HVDC valve.
* Defined and executed type testing using both internal and external test facilities using both standard and tailored test regimes to qualify components.
* Responsible for interpretation of thermal, electrical, mechanical and environmental conditions which define the requirement specifications for water-cooled power resistors and power capacitors.
* Prepared component specifications for Static Var Compensators & HVDC valves.
* Modelling of electrical circuit conditions using Micro-cap software to determine component ratings
* Prepared sections of tender documents and participated in design/development reviews.
