Management of all maintenance policies and procedures for power units, comprising Caterpillar and Cummins diesel units up to 2000Kva.
Technical assistance where necessary in case of unit defects and repair.
As required to advise in mechanical repairs on all company heavy equipment( Mainly Caterpillar ) in all workshops.

Maintenance and Construction Manager - reporting to the General Manager

Subordinates- 4 superintendents with 150 artisans

Four different departments comprising;

1. Equipment workshop - Maintenance of Cat bulldozers, heavy generators (total of 2300 Kva) bucket loaders, graders, heavy trucks, trailers, tankers, tractors, light vehicles, motorcycles and power-saws.

2. Electrical – Ensure continuous power supply to the processing factory and plantation environs inclusive of housing estates, hospital and schools. Maintenance of the generators and power distribution grid.

3. Construction – Comprising masons, carpenters, and plumbers. Construction of all new projects as well as maintenance of existing facilities. This has included new labor housing camps, office buildings and warehousing. Maintenance of existing houses, schools, offices in all aspects such as water supply, electrical, air-conditioning, masonry and painting.

4. Roads and Bridges - Construction of new plantation roads and bridges and maintenance and repair of existing network inclusive of bridges and culverts. Roads are all dirt graded with both log and metal bridges with concrete culverts.

Del Monte Kenya Ltd

Technical Manager reporting to the Managing Director

Subordinates – 3 departmental engineers and 200 artisans

Objective - to ensure the plantation equipment and civil works were maintained in a safe reliable condition so as to maximize availability for all operations while keeping within budgetary plans.
(Budget for the department was US$8 million per annum.)

Equipment included Caterpillar dozers, graders, buckets, large wheeled tractors, irrigation pump engines, trucks, light vehicles, and agricultural implements.
Total number of units in excess of 350.
Operations included all agricultural activities required to plant, cultivate and harvest 250,000 tons of pineapple per year from a 30,000 acre plantation.

Civil works duties included construction and maintenance of all plantation buildings, including housing, schools, pump houses and irrigation networks.

National Service Manager – reporting to the General Manager

Subordinates – 2 managers and 32 Technicians.

Objective was to ensure the division workshop was run in an efficient and profitable manor utilizing the available resources and increase service business.
As National manager it was also my responsibility to visit all nominated dealers in the country and ensure we enjoyed a first class reputation as a service provider to all customers using our brands and ensure all facilities met with our required standards.

Liaison with head offices in both Japan and Italy regarding any warranty issues, product defects and implementation of any technical service bulletins
Brands included Mitsubishi FUSO and IVECO heavy vehicles.

Organize and co-ordinate the workshop activities in maintaining 330 public service buses utilizing 550 technicians on a 24 hour 3 shift system.
This included all aspects of servicing and yearly inspections as well as all mechanical, electrical, and bodywork maintenance and cleanliness of all vehicles ensuring compliance with all statutory requirements regarding safety regulations.

Prepare all annual maintenance budgets and monitor daily expenditure against same.

Responsible for all civil works involved in maintaining the companies building premises and housing properties.

Responsible for all civil works requirements on the company's workshop and office buildings and staff housing.

Using a fleet of 75 articulated truck /trailer/ tanker units.

Journeyman-in-charge of Avon jet engine repair facility.
Duties were to oversee the overhaul of jet engines used in the airforces' Hawker Hunter aircraft and provide training to the airforce apprentices.
