Explored and evaluated largest iron-ore body owned by one company -- Sierra dos Carajas. Claims covered 325,000 acres of Amazon jungle. Constructed airstrips and transported tractors, trucks, drills, and personnel by air to property -- no access roads. Transported over four hundred tons of material each month. Operated and maintained three helicopters and two DC-3s.

Over 875 workers in field. Utilized local labor almost entirely. Constructed housing and facilities for work force and hanger with government-certified repair facility for aircraft.

In 18 months, 35,000 meters of diamond drilling, 2,000 meters of drifting, and 200 meters of raises completed under budget. Responsible for worker's health -- tropical diseases endemic.

Collected and prepared data for government report to obtain mining concessions. Responsible for and controlled expenditures for all engineering and geologic work.

Directed discovery of world-class manganese deposit that supported largest manganese mine in South America and a world class nickel laterite deposit.

Managed open-pit operations - 17-million tons of iron ore per year. Responsible for production, union negotiations, operations, and maintenance of all equipment. Used standard-cost system and over two million dollars of verified cost reductions submitted with corresponding tightening of controllable budget.

Shift Boss To Assistant Mine Superintendent, Anaconda Mining Company, Cananea, Mexico

Responsible for deepest shaft of underground operations. Directed and trained 150 men on all equipment.

Researched and developed diamond-drill core testing procedure to predict rock strength and support required in future mining areas.

Installed improved blasting techniques. Responsible for largest non-nuclear underground blast at that time. The 8,000,000-ton blast took 16 months to organize and prepare. Provided ore for more than five years.
