DUTIES: Identification, evaluation, and control stress factors at the Refinery, i.e. heat stress, dust, illumination and noise. Instruments used, included Drager CMS, thermometer, Wibget - heat stress monitor; Rion, Bruel & Kjaer sound level, and noise dosimeter, weighing cabinet with scale, Gillian air sampling pumps, and filter cassettes - dust. Laws attended to included OHS Act. 85 of 1993.
Reviewing ISO 1400, 9000 and OSHAS 1800 documents with the HES Officer and Internal Auditor. Obtain dangerous chemical substances from Material Safety Data Sheets, to determine threshold limit values (TLV) of different substances. Update existing information on hazardous chemical substances (HCS). Investigated health risks at the Petrochemical plant, and compiled a report. Arranging for the treatment and dumping of hazardous waste.
Writing of occupational hygiene reports, weekly and monthly report on the safety issues at the refinery. Incident and complains investigations. Buying and testing of Personal Protective Equipment. Filing and updating of the MSDS documents. Review occupational health documents. Updating of hazardous manifest and ensuring the removal of the hazardous waste. Conduct safety audits and safety campaigns. I was involved in different safety meetings example contracting safety meetings, HES meetings, Operational safety and weekly safety meetings. I was also part of the steering committee that introduces a new concept that look at workers behaviour to reduce incidents. Prepare fire drills procedures. Initiate Safety Programs. Involve in the launch of the "CAPE" (Calref Accident Prevention Environment) process at the refinery.
