Water Industry
Assistant Development Officer 5 Years (Early PLC and SCADA systems R&D)
PLC systems. Programmable Logic Controllers. Mainly used onsite to control large zone water values. Attached to a 12" or larger Rotork valve. These systems were developed to control water pressure in to the main water zones.
PSTN Data Loggers. PLC programmed depending on the head flow curve and requirements of the zone. The head flow curve was calculated depending on the data collected during an initial assessment using a PSTN (Telephone based) data logger system developed in house. These data loggers were placed carefully onsite to record water pressure and sub zone water flow demand. The data loggers would either be set to record over a given period and collected or be dialled in to via the PSTN network, each data system would be accessed via a specific telephone number. (Current technology would be internet based via a specific ISP. Citech type based systems)
