2004 - current Senior Planning Engineer (Nuclear)- BNS Nuclear Services

BNS Nuclear Services (formally INS Innovation) a member of Babcock, is one of the largest providers of specialist nuclear engineering and design services in the UK and is focused on providing engineering solutions throughout the nuclear fuel cycle, for waste management, clean-up and defence.

My role within this company is to advise and council Project Managers in planning methodologies and techniques, own the planning process and report on progress and earned value. Project efficiency utilising key indices and earned value calculations are vital to maximise profit and guarantee success. I am involved as a key member from the bid preparation stage right through the project lifecycle to completion and represent the company at planning meetings.

I have on occasion been requested in a consultant capacity to assist other companies, both partners and clients, in planning techniques and problem solving.

During my tenure at BNS I have made process improvements in quotation algorithms resulting in savings in excess of £200k to date.

Typical projects within my portfolio range from £50k Contract Variations, through small capital projects of £2-3m to large multi-million long-term programmes. I am often selected as the Planning Engineer for Alliance programmes supporting other companies such as AMEC, Scott-Wilson and Costains. All programmes are resourced with costs and modelled in Primavera P3e although the use of Primavera P3, MS Project 2003 and MS Office tools are sometimes required by specific clients. I was heavily involved in the selection and implementation of P3e at BNS and act as the system administrator in controlling access, resource and role definition, global codes etc.

1997 - 2004 Business Intelligence Systems Specialist - ILFORD IMAGING UK Ltd.

To manage the development of Business Intelligence related applications. Analyse requirements and assign appropriate staff to development projects. Advise on and train Group IS personnel in Project Management skills and techniques. Additionally, utilising Process Mapping, Error Prevention Techniques and similar tools, I lead Business Improvement activities. My extensive experience encompasses S&OP, forecasting and market intelligence exploitation, defining and establishing KPIs and other business analysis tools using the various reporting technologies available such as Business Objects and bespoke software. Controlling change is a key facet of the role as is problem solving and liaison with all levels of the organisation, from Board to shop floor.

Whilst still performing these roles I diverged into systems improvements and development, a role I was eventually "head-hunted" into Group IS for. Technologies employed include Open Plan Professional, Primavera P3, MS Project, Timeline and various database and spreadsheet tools.

* Implemented a radical change to the method of project control by the introduction of Structured Project Planning and support software.

* Championed the use of structured planning techniques and provide formal training to project managers and engineers. Regarded as an "Evangelist" on the subject.

1984-90 Data Analyst - ILFORD IMAGING UK Ltd.

* Analysis of manufacturing data for assessment of suitability for further value processes using Statistical Process Control. The introduction of personal computers enabled faster and more in depth analysis. I specified a database to contain the required data and managed the build, testing and implementation.

* Promoted to Team Leader.
