I have 30 years experience in the cutting tool industry. The majority of this time spent designing and producing insert tooling for highly specialized applications. I am interested in working for an international company having spent a considerable amount of time in Europe and Asia. I am most interested in the raw materials (carbide powder, carbide blanks, and poly crystalline diamond material) side of the business because research and development was the area that I have devoted most of my time. I gained a thorough understanding of this material and the manufacturing process by working closely with suppliers collaborating to improve product quality and identify the specific requirements of the domestic North American markets. I have developed complete business plans from scratch including the construction of a cutting tool facility, extensive sales, marketing and distribution plans and close work with major producers of the specialized grinding machinery required to convert these raw materials into a finished product.
Raw materials and component parts for major industrial products require the recognition of BRAND as an extremely important factor as compared to consumer goods where the BRANDING comes from the distribution channel. Obviously your materials are sold under the brand name of the ultimate manufacturer but the value of developing the brand for selection as a primary supplier is critical. You cannot develop this brand name recognition strictly with sales and marketing campaign, you must have a superior product but having a superior product is of no value unless you can the acceptance and utilization of the major manufacturers. This requires a direct presence that customers begin to associate with the product, the company and the utilization of your material.
Distributors simply buy and sell products and it is statistically proven that they change both products and vendors with some degree of frequency. Direct technical sales agents employed by the manufacturer who have both a keen business understanding and technical expertise have consistently proven to be far more successful in building long term relationships with highly complex industrial materials and is more significant important in the niche markets of hard materials and cutting tools.
While the current global economic conditions have decreased short term sales it presents an excellent opportunity to lay the foundation for steady growth as market conditions reverse. Major companies are conducting research and development to identify tool designs and or combinations of design with proper carbide grade selection for each specific application and market that they serve.

Developed a business model capable of competing with much larger German companies having a 6 to 8 week lead time by delivering completed products in 10 days or less of without any compromise to the integrity, performance or overall quality of the tooling product.
Applied rules of Parametric Product Design creating “families” of parts to reduce engineering time by 50%. Extended these parametric rule based guidelines to create Macro Based CNC code for production equipment to reduce set-up time by 50% and enable profitable production of small quantity batches of custom parts.
Initiate and manage the development of custom software for non-contact measurement and quality control inspection for 100% of all profile ground carbide knives resulting in a competitive business advantage. Research and deploy an ERP system for complete control of the business activity. All parts are fully traceable throughout every stage of the production process—from raw material receipt to customer delivery, using a state of the art ERP system, database driven CAD software and shop floor and bar-coded routing sheets.
Extend the ERP and CAD database to a secure customer portal using web based software development and extensive collaboration of desperate software systems. Any crucial information required by a customer to further the supplier/customer relationship provided 24 hours x 7 days using this system. Eliminates extensive communication errors, streamlines order entry and provide customers with a secure feeling of their supplier relationship.
Combined the Sales function with the Engineering function to provide cost effective one on one visits to all customers providing them with meaningful assistance on applications, tool design and operational details that are real time issues for the customer. Has enhanced quality of communication and provides helpful feedback to promote continual learning and improvements as well as brand acceptance and market penetration much more effectively over traditional sales cycles.
