The mine complex comprised of two coal mines coal handling plant, coal preparation plant and rapid rail loading system together with associated mine surface buildings, mine offices welfare administration, workshops, generator station and 132/6.6kV grid supply sub stations and associated power, water, heating and compressed air services. Mine No1 is designed to produce 1.5 Mt ROM per year from one coal face and development headings Central mine is designed to produce 500,000 tons per year from two continuous miner board and pillar workings.
2005-2006 Spitsbergen Acting as technical representative for a major international company of insurance loss adjusters, with reference to the assessment and settlement insurance claim caused by a coal mine fire with subsequent flooding of the mine. The settlement claim included property damage, business interruption; mine rescue and restart costs for a coal mine producing over 3 million tons of coal per year.

1996-2002: IMC CONSULTING ENGINEERS Senior Electrical/Mechanical Engineer.
Assigned to Barapukuria Coal Mine Project in Bangladesh as Senior Electrical/Mechanical Engineer. Responsible for the overall supervision for the mechanical and electrical equipment being installed and utilised for the underground coal mine project, reporting to the client's Managing Director. The work involves the co-ordination of the Chinese Contractors who are undertaking the mine underground development and surface construction for Petrobangla and the Government Ministries.
Specific responsibilities for the equipment safety systems and procedures for the overall electrical and mechanical installations, M & E design verification during development and construction together with the Chinese manufactured equipment selection for the surface and underground development and production equipment. The Engineering installations of the Auxiliary Multi-Rope D.C. Friction Winder, Surface 33/6kV Intake Sub-station and underground main 6kV electrical sub-station, and 260m pump stations and standby generators have been completed.
Supplementary temporary underground pump stations and sub-stations are still in progress, as is the construction work of the permanent skip loading pockets, Main Shaft AC Winder together with surface and underground bunker storage systems and surface coal preparation plant
1996-1998: KVAERNER CEMENTATION MINING
Company Electrical Engineer
Responsible for the procurement, installation and commissioning of K.C.M. electrical plant and equipment installed in the UK and overseas, involving UK coal mines private mines, metal and hard rock mines.. Road tunnels, sewage and storm outfall tunnels and other major civil engineering projects. Principal electrical engineer responsible for the company electrical safety procedures, department administration, training, evaluation of accounts, tenders, proposals and procurement of new and used/refurbished electrical equipment utilised in project operation in the UK and overseas.
1994-97: GALMOY LEAD ZINC MINE, Eire/ LISHEEN LEAD ZINC MINE (1998) Eire
Senior Operations Electrical Engineer both at Tender and Contract stage. The contract was awarded for the development and equipping of an underground mine complex.
The scope of works also included the provision of underground crushing and handling facilities, de-watering, ventilation, lights, mill and processing plant and associated electrical reticulation (38 kV/6.6 kV). Detailed design of the control philosophy was also carried out and implemented on site during 1997.
1996-98: CBI, Cayeli Copper Mine, Rize, Turkey
Senior Operations Electrical Engineer.
Coordination of civil engineering works for the associated and subsequent mechanical and electrical installation and commissioning of equipment for the shaft sinking project. The mine production hoist utilised for shaft sinking was originally the ex-production winder from Wheal Jane (UK), which was built by GEC in 1972 and mechanically refurbished by Markham Engineering in 1995.
Retained as electrical co-ordinating consultant for the new mine shaft skip, surface and underground conveyor ore transportation system. This involved the design evaluation and verification of the digital electrical / electronic scheme drawings and co-ordinating the implementation of the design, construction, shipping, transporting, installation and final commissioning of the project equipment, which was sourced and built in Canada, UK, Germany and Turkey.
1995-96: SOUTHWEST WATER, Penzance, Senior Operations Electrical Engineer - Gwithian Sea Outfall Tunnel. Involved in the tender electrical design and re-design and installation at site of the power distribution scheme for the underground, undersea construction of two tunnels, 2.65 km by 2.11 m diameter respectively and six shafts ranging from 1.8 m diameter to 5.7 m to a maximum depth of 60 m.

1991-95: BRITISH COAL SHAFT/DRILL INFILLS
Senior Operations Electrical Engineer. Involved in the tender, electrical design, safety statement procedures and re-commissioning of mine winders safety circuits interlock shaft/doors/gates and electrical power installation for the closure of the following mines: South Kirby, Manton Colliery, High Moor, Treeton, Barnsley Main, Kiveton Park/High Moor and Bevercotes.
1991: Senior Electrical Engineer - Bentley House engaged on the preparation of UK and international tenders from enquiry stage to submission including design, supply and procurement for existing UK and overseas contracts.
Electrical & Mechanical - Design concentrating on both the underground and surface works, for a waste repository handling both low and intermediate level radioactive materials. This involved the development of the civil, mining mechanical/electrical design of the underground works in collaboration with GEC Alsthom.
1989: Electrical Engineer - North Selby Mine. Responsible for the equipping of a new Hi-Tech coalmine involving development headings, conveyor steel chord belt, coalbunkers, and coalface equipment installations for mine production. Together with the installation, examination, repair, maintenance and supervision for the surface and underground electrical equipment for developing 2 Mt/a coal mine, operating on a 11/6.6 kV HT system.
1988: Project Engineer - Electrical. Carrying out design costings and feasibility studies for tenders. Margam New Drift Mine, Bilston Glen/Monkton Hall, Pergau Shafts, Asfordby, Maltby, and North Selby.
Site duties during this period were for contracts mainly in the UK. Fauld Gypsum Mine, Winsford Salt Mine, Asfordby Coal Mine, Maltby Coal Mine, Parys Mountain Copper Mine, Anglesey Mining, Shirebrook Coal Mine, Warsop Coal Mine, Hartington Shafts (Markham Mine).
1987: Senior Engineer for Ghusick Coal Mine Project. Electrical/mechanical system design, planning and costing for turnkey offer for the construction of a 2.5 Mt/a coal mine in India.
1986: Head Office - Electrical Engineer. Provide and direct electrical engineering services for plant and site equipment. Project design, costing and feasibility studies. Plant specifications, systems design and cost for tender purposes.
1981: Transferred to Head Office - appointed Senior Electrical/Mechanical Engineer. Projects engaged on the preparation of major tenders and feasibility studies. For example: Jaipurhat Limestone Mine, Bangladesh, Jining Coal Mine, China.
1979: Mechanical/Electrical Engineer. North Selby shafts project engaged on the design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of winding engines, head-gears/tipping gear, stage winches, substations, freeze plant, water treatment plants standby generator and other major plant items associated with shaft sinking and coalmine development.1977: Mechanical/Electrical Engineer. Projects with Cementation Mining Limited engaged at HQ in the preparation of electrical systems and layouts for major mine construction projects. Including re-design refurbishment; installation and commissioning of existing Sinking Winders for use in the Selby Coal Mine Complex. This also incorporated the new design philosophy for safety and control circuit and equipment to comply with future Markham Safety Recommendations. Electrical and Mechanical Design Consultancies for British Coal including Daw Mill Drifts and Castlebridge Mines Tenders and specifications for coal preperation plants
1976: Shift Charge Electrical Engineer - NCB Hawthorne Combine Mine. Hawthorn combined mine was an idea conceived by the National Coal Board which would draw the coals produced from Murton, Eppleton and Elemore collieries. Hawthorn mine comprised of two coal drawing shafts, a 1000 ton per hour rated coal washery plant with associated coking works.
1973: Foreman Electrical Engineer with South Durham Area Winding Engine Test Team. Responsible for the technical investigation of both electrical and mechanical safety systems resulting from the Markham Winder incident. Electrical investigation into control system of AC Winding Engines with and without dynamic braking. Stress calculations of equipment etc.
1972: Supervisory Electrical Engineer at Blackhall Colliery.
1968: Student Apprenticeship in Electrical Engineering and Engineering Trainee at NCB Area Headquarters, Spennymoor. Attended full time study course at Leeds and Sunderland Universities.
