PROFFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE Chambishi Metals Plc, Kitwe 2006 – 2009 Kansanshi Mining Plc, Solwezi 2004 – 2006 Konkola Copper Mines Plc, Nchanga Mine, Chingola 2000 – 2004 Zambia Consolidated Copper Mines Ltd, Nchanga Division 1985 – 2000 Process Controller – Lime Plant and Copper Tank House 2006 – 2009 Supervised and operated the Lime Plant and Copper Tank House including residue disposal system and acid loading bay. The Lime Plant consisted of two circuits, one for quick lime and the other for rock lime, both with associated grinding mills, stock tanks and pumps. The Copper Tank House consisted of the Electro Winning and Electro stripping circuits for production of copper cathodes and cobalt stripped liquor. Coordinated maintenance jobs and set up priorities for maintenance. Supervised more than 150 personnel including contract labour. * Trained and supervised the quality control crew to ensure shorts identification and correction; cell electrodes alignment; solution circulation in cells. * Trained and supervised cell loaders and desludgers for pulling the cathodes and cleaning the cells respectively. * Formulated pulling and cell desludging schedules and ensured compliance. * Implemented the plant task observation and safe work procedures. * Replaced 30 concrete lead lined cells with polymer concrete cells with improved performance. * Redesigned and implemented solution feed lines with improved solution distribution and house keeping. * Made improvements to the existing circuit with improved performance. * Produced the highest copper cathodes at an average of 70 tonnes per day and stripped liquor of 1200 m3 per day during the 2006-2007 financial year. * Supervised copper cathodes loading and despatches. Technical Supervisor – Hydrometallurgical Section 2004 – 2006 Commissioned and operated the Leaching section, CCDs and Pinned Bed Clarifiers, Solvent Extraction, Pregnant Leach Solution and Raffinate storage ponds, Electro winning, Neutralistion and the Tailings dam at Kansanshi Mining Processing Plant. Supervised more than 120 people including contract labour. * Trained local non-miners employees into fully qualified operators and attendants. * Attained stability of operations within two months of commissioning. * Achieved acceptable through put and Leach, SX efficiencies. * Supervised the copper stripping crew and achieved daily pulling schedules, producing more than 200 tonnes of copper cathodes per day. Assistant Plant Manager – Tailings Leach Plant 2003 – 2004 Managed and operated the Solvent Extraction, Quick and Rock Lime milling plants including the acid off loading section. * Achieved good extraction efficiencies in SX and acceptable advance copper tenors. * Achieved acceptable rock lime grind quality and through put. Production Controller – East Mill 2001 – 2003 Managed the East Mill Operations of the Nchanga Concentrator with more than two hundred employees' labour force, milling an average of 14500 tonnes of copper ore per day. Coordinated the supply and milling schedules with Nchanga Open Pit Production personnel. Managed the Muntimpa Tailings Dam and the Tailings reclamation operations at Kamana Dams for subsequent treatment at the Tailings Leach Plant. Managed the Safety, Health and environmental (SHE), cost and quality control programmes. * Achieved acceptable milling rates and plant efficiencies. * Operated for 18 months without any lost time injury and received high appreciation from management. * Reduced fresh water intake by recycling the process water and plant spillage. Production Controller – West Mill 2000 – 2001 Managed and operated the milling, floatation, dewatering and concentrates handling sections. Managed the daily operations of the milling circuit consisting of the 12 ball mills (11' x 9' Diameter); sulphide, oxide copper and cobalt ores; dewatering plant consisting of thickeners, Dorr – Oliver drum filters and drying plant; concentrate handling and despatches. * Achieved acceptable concentrates grades and recoveries for both copper and cobalt circuits. * Sustained good plant operations through coordinated and planned maintenance schedules. * Modified circuits to treat cobalt ore at high through put of 10000 tonnes per day and achieved good through put results and concentrates grades, recoveries. * Achieved good environmental and cost control results. Plant Metallurgist Acting Superintendent Nchanga East Mill 1999 Managed the daily operations of the East Mill at senior management level and achieved acceptable plant performance. Coordinated safety, cost and quality control programmes. Managed the Tailings Dam for the mine and maintained stability with water discharge through the spill way within required limits. * Achieved acceptable milling rates and quality feed for floatation at West Mill * Promoted safety programmes amongst employees and team work between maintenance and operations personnel for smooth operations. * Maintained stable dam walls through proper cycloning operations and ensured discharge to the environment were within acceptable limits. Plant Metallurgist – Cobalt Circuit and Projects 1998 – 1999 * Managed the cobalt circuit operations and projects and achieved good results. * Made changes to the dosing points of sulphidiser and collector and introduced lime addition for pH control and achieved good results * Installed the launder feeding system at the cobalt thickener and resulted in improved concentrates settling rates. * Coordinated the installation of the 20" Krebs cyclones at both East and West Mills and achieved good particle size separation for feed to floatation. * Appointed as one of the Task Force members to revive the dwindling operations standards of the pyrite producing plant at Nampundwe with great success. Senior Assistant Metallurgical Engineer 1994 – 1997 * Commissioned the 15" Floatation column on copper concentrate cleaning duty with good results. * Performed reagent optimization in the Laboratory and subsequent implemented on the plant * Produced Metallurgical balances and other technical reports for the Department. * Optimised the vortex finder of the home made cyclone and implemented on the plant. Achieved acceptable separation characteristics. * Commissioned the Filter Presses which improved the filtration capacity of the dewatering circuit. * Supervised the installation of the 300 ft Wemco cells on copper scavenger duty and commissioned them. * Optimised and introduced TS frother and TSS904 promoter on the plant with acceptable results. Metallurgical Technician 1985 – 1993 Performed routine control of reagents dosages, grind product quality monitoring, and floatation efficiencies of both columns and mechanical cells, concentrates quality. Determined the pump factors for daily through put computation * Achieved reduced losses of reagents as a result of controlled dosing and timeous repair of leaks. * Guided the plant personnel on the control of operating parameters. * Measured the pump line factors which assisted in accounting for daily through put with minimal errors. * Controlled floatation column parameters resulted in production of quality concentrates. * Performed routine cyclone performance analysis at the Tailings Dam and monitored the stability of the dam through establishing the water table level using the piezometers.
