SUMMARY OF QUALIFICATIONS:
I have experience in both near mine exploration, geotechnical/engineering, and resource estimation, and in greenfields exploration (new terranes). This experience involves short term consulting work at over 20 mine sites or mineral exploration projects, as well as longer term jobs of up to 1-2 years at selected operations.
I also have extensive experience designing and building software systems to support mineral exploration and geology projects starting from the basic data building blocks (geological data, assay data, geophysical data). This involves experience with a wide variety of computer systems and mining and geological software, including Vulcan, Surpac, MapInfo, ArcView, and DataShed.
OBJECTIVE:
I would like a job in mining (production, engineering, or environment) or in mineral exploration, located in the western US. I would prefer residence at or near any mine sites rather than fly-in fly-out operations.

Validation, preparation, and analysis geological and geophysical data, using 2D and 3D analysis techniques. Creation and use of 3D solid geology models of prospect to regional scale mineral exploration areas. Mineral exploration targeting and reporting. Chairman of the company IT steering committee charged with database design standards and computer infrastructure.
Major Achievements - completed major projects in mineral exploration (chiefly gold and copper) in Alaska, New Zealand (North Island), Western Australia, British Colombia, and Ontario. Developed (as part of a team) the comprehensive data storage and organization strategy for major mineral exploration projects which is used by the company.
Fractal Geoscience
Perth, Western Australia
Full Time, Jan 2001 to Dec 2001
Job Title: Senior Structural Geologist/Training Coordinator
Duties - Fieldwork, creation and interrogation of 3D sold geology models, geological analysis. Preparation of consulting geology reports for mineral exploration, geotechnical, and resource estimation projects. Preparation and presentation of training courses for industry and university audiences on a contract basis. Major course topics included geological mapping and assessment in open pits and underground mines; 3D geological modelling, and the preparation/validation of geological data for modelling activities; and advanced analysis of potential field data (gravity and magnetics). Designing and describing requirements for custom software, C programming.
Major Achievements - presented training courses for clients including University of Western Australia and St Ives Gold. Continued development of strategies for capture and validation of geological data in the mining and resource industry.
Fractal Graphics
Perth, Western Australia
Full Time, Nov 1997 to Dec 2000
Job Title: Structural Geologist/Consulting Geologist
Duties - Open pit and underground geological mapping and development of 3D solid geology models. Geological analysis and reporting for geotechnical analysis, resource estimation, and mineral exploration. Software design and description, some programming in C language. Unix environment awk programming. Preparation of web-based marketing materials.
Major Achievements - Member of Fractal Graphics/Taylor Wall and Associates team that finished first place in GoldCorp Challenge competition. As part of the Fractal Graphics/Fractal Geoscience team, developed a comprehensive strategy for capture, validation, and full utilisation of exploration and mining data in computer-based analysis of resources projects. These strategies and methods underpin the successful business model of Fractal Graphics/Fractal Geoscience/Geoinformatics Exploration.
CSIRO Exploration and Mining
Perth, Western Australia (Nedlands Office)
Full Time, Feb 1994 to Oct 1997
Job Title: Research Scientist/Structural Geologist/Consulting Geologist
Duties - Finite element and finite difference based numerical simulation of rock deformation and the structural control of ore deposits. As part of a multi-disciplinary team, studied the structure, character, and syntax of exploration and mining data. Evaluation and design of geological modelling software. In 1994 to 1996 was on part time secondment to Fractal Graphics. Use of object-oriented software design principles, with some programming in C++.
Major Achievments - Part of a multi-disciplinary team that completed a comprehensive study of the character and syntax of exploration and mining data. This basic knowledge was used to evaluate software and tools of the resources industries, and also to help produce new strategies and designs for mineral exploration and mining software.
