ENGINEERING AND TECHNICAL CONSULTANT
Audited ore reserves, mining methods, capital and operating costs, manpower requirements and environmental issues to develop financial forecasts on domestic and international mining projects for clients seeking joint venture, acquisition or expansion opportunities in gold, silver, copper, diamond and industrial minerals industries. Negotiated with clients and various government representatives in Canada, Mexico, North, Central and South America, West Africa, Eastern Europe, CIS, Russia, China, Australia and Southeast Asia. Completed the financial and mine engineering sections of a feasibility study for a $260-million copper/gold project in Kazakhstan. Coordinated specialists, interviewed suppliers, construction contractors and negotiated with federal agencies. Principal specialist for technical design of an open pit/underground gold mine expansion in Uzbekistan. Project manager for a study on the feasibility of using portable solvent extraction plants to process Canadian copper deposits. Developed requirements and negotiated contracts to purchase mining equipment for an open pit gold mine in Nevada.
MINE OPERATIONS
Managed project construction and mine operations at a 330,000 oz/y open-pit gold mine in northern Nevada. Recruited staff, established objectives, assigned priorities and achieved design capacity on schedule. Directed preliminary mine sampling, development, metallurgical evaluation, process design, logistics, budgeting and engineering design for a proposed gold mine in California. Directed mine engineering and revised the mining sequence to improve production and head grade at an underground potash mine in New Mexico. Instituted change from conventional underground mining to continuous mining techniques to reduce cost and extend mine life. Supervised mine operations at a major remote Indonesian open pit copper mine.
ENVIRONMENTAL, HEALTH and SAFETY
Environmental manager for major gold mine in Nevada with corporate responsibility for occupational health, safety, training and environmental compliance. Key manager on EIS/EA studies to permit a large open-pit gold mine in Nevada. Coordinated the activities of a coalition of mining industry chief executives and leaders of several national environmental organizations to study ramifications resulting from the Summitville Mine controversy in Colorado. Developed design details and obtained closure permits for hazardous mine waste sites in Nevada. Developed and implemented a heavy equipment mine operator training program.
CORPORATE DEVELOPMENT AND STRATEGIC PLANNING
Developed business plan and marketing strategy for a joint venture between Newmont and DuPont for a copper/gold resin extraction facility. Investigated market opportunities, defined and implemented strategy to introduce the technology to clients in South America, Australia and Southeast Asia. Evaluated the acquisition of gold mining projects worldwide to increase overall ore reserves.

VICEROY GOLD – 1987 to 1992. Vice President, Operations. Vancouver, Canada. Planned, directed and coordinated design engineering for a 18,000 tpd gold heap leach project in southern California.
FREEPORT GOLD – 1978 to 1987. Project Engineer, Mine Manager, Elko, Nevada. Headed mine development, operations, environmental permitting, health, safety and training for a 300,000 ounce per year gold mine.
FREEPORT MINERALS – 1977 to 1978. Project Engineer, New Orleans, Louisiana. Project acquisition analyst.
NATIONAL POTASH (FREEPORT) – 1976 to 1977. Chief Mine Engineer, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Transferred into this underground room & pillar potash mine to resolve production problems.
FREEPORT INDONESIA – Mine Superintendent, Irian Jaya, Indonesia. Trained and supervised indigenous work force at a high-altitude remote copper/gold mine.
DUVAL SIERRITA – Mining Engineer, Mine Foreman,, Tucson, Arizona. Mine planning, drilling supervisor, shift foreman at large tonnage copper mine.
