Job rotation and assignment were part of the company's operation thus after the 2 years exposure in each department and before another promotion I was transferred to the Drilling Section as a Drilling and Blasting Planning Engineer with the following duties and responsibilities;

* Supervision of the entire blast drilling operation, hole sounding for blast preparations, Drilling lay out planning for effective blast pattern and other daily operation concerns.

* Rock density determination along with other factors that might affect blasting performance and breakage. Scheduling all lay-out for blasting in adherence to the mine planning advance with hard toe prevention and tonnage computation;

* Upon drilling completion on the agreed pattern a close coordination with the
Production supervisors for the incoming Blasting activities and schedule, providing for the safe area where mining equipment like electric shovels, drills, dozers etc. be traveled for optimum safety distance during blasting;

* During PMS (Preventive Maintenance Schedule) keeping drilling tools and accessories in tip top condition, checking the drilling tubes, drill bit performances in certain rock formations keeping track of the meter drilled, the pattern by which the tri-cone been worn out, checking cone bearing and air passages and other vital areas of concern including the drilling rig in general;
