HISTORY

I started employment with the Department of Correctional Services in 1978.

In 1980 I moved to Copperton where I joined the Mining Industry at Prieska Copper Mines (copper and zinc) as Dispatch Clerk, where I was responsible for the dispatching of the concentrate. I was transferred from there to the Plant as a Shift Leader and Relieving Shift Foreman where I was in charge of a shift, controlling the extraction of copper and zinc.

PROCESS: Flotation

In 1986 I took up a position at JCI – Swartklip as a Shift Foreman and Relieving Plant Foreman, controlling the extraction of Platinum.

In 1988 I moved to Reivilo where I started as a Shift Foreman and then later as a Relieving Plant Foreman, controlling the extraction of zinc and lead. I gained a lot of experience in disciplinary actions and the implementation of NOSA standards and inspections, PLC operated plant and Planned Maintenance.

In 1996 I moved to Theunissen, where I took a position of Plant Superintendent at Star Diamonds (diamond mine). I gained experience in budgeting, cost control, extraction and security of diamonds.

I was offered a position with OTR Mining at Klein-Lethaba, as Project Manager of the exploration site. I tested various options of gold and tantalite extraction. I did a business plan for a mine in Central Africa.

When the project with OTR closed, I moved to Rayton to start an old diamond mine where I had to rebuild and commission the plant.

When the mine was in production, I was offered a position of Surface Manager on the Good Hope Diamond Mine (diamonds). I was responsible for all the surface operations, which included Plant, Engineering, Admin and Stores.

I was transferred to Don Diamonds as Mine Manager, responsible for the running of the mine, which included Plant, Engineering, Mining, Admin and Stores.

In January 2001, I was retrenched and offered a position as Plant Operator at Mazal Mining. After a few weeks I was promoted to Plant Foreman. Supervising the day to day operation of the Plant, Engineering, Stores and Mining Vehicles.

At the end of March 2002, I was offered a position at ITM Mining in Angola as a Plant Foreman. Where I was in charge of the Process Plants, during this time I also worked as the Chief Sorter in the CRP (Concentrate Recovery Room). I was responsible for the maintenance and smooth running of the plants and in the CRP, for the recovery, security, sorting and classification of the diamonds. Assist Mining, with information gathered from the daily recovery, to plan the daily production. With the daily exposure to mining operations, I gained valuable experience on diamond bearing deposits and excavations.

PROCESS: Scrubber Washing Plant, HMS, X-Ray machines

In January 2004 Prime Exploration offered me a Mine Manger position on a 6-week contract in Angola; I was in charge of the whole mining and recovery operation and the day to day running of the mine. The project went on till the en of May 2004. The mine operated on an exploration contract and was not able toe sell diamonds before they gathered 5 000 carats. Operating capital became a problem and the project was stopped.

PROCESS: Scrubber Washing Plant, Pan Plant

In June 2004, I started as a Mine Manager on Rovic Diamonds, where I was in charge of the recovery of diamonds from tailings and for the daily running of the mine. I commissioned the DMS and since June the recovery was much higher that it was before. In April 2005 the process stopped.

In May 2005 I returned to ITM in my current position as Asst Chief Metallurgist.

At the end of October 2007, I resigned to take up a position as Process Manager with Manhattan Corporation in South Africa.

In June 2008 I was promoted to Mine Manager on the new mine for Manhattan.

PROCESS: Pan Plant, Flow Sort and Mining with in pit screening (Warriors).
