PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
- Mining
Medium and Long Term Mine Planning and Design at Rosebery Mine (March 2008 - present); Oz Minerals Rosebery Mine, Tasmania
Mine Planning Engineer responsible for Mine24D/MineCad based planning and design of underground development and stoping operations including scheduling medium and long term production sequencing. The underground operation is producing circa 800,000 tpa of ore using longhole stoping with cemented rock fill.
Mining Planning for Stoping Operations at Argo Underground Mine (June 2007 – March 2008); St Ives Gold Mine, Goldfields Australia, WA
Production Mining Engineer responsible for all aspects of underground production operations including Datamine based stope evaluation and design of production drill holes, short-term scheduling, production charging and bogging operations. The underground operation is producing circa 600,000 tpa of ore using longhole stoping with/without pastefill.
Mining Planning and Capital Investments for an Underground Mining Operation (Aug 2006-Feb 2007); Suzdal Gold Mine, Celtic Resources plc, Semey region, Kazakhstan
Senior Mining Engineer responsible for all aspects of medium/long term planning for an underground gold mining project. The underground operation was planning to reach 400,000 tpa ore production rate using sublevel open stoping with/without backfill. The responsibilities included LoM planning, design for underground development and production stoping, preparing mining schedules and budgets, specifying and selecting mobile equipment, evaluating of ventilation, compressed air and mine drainage systems.
Mining Supervision for Underground Mine Development and Production (Jan 2000 – Dec 2001); Finsch & Premier Diamond Mines, De Beers Ltd., Northern Cape & Gauteng, South Africa
Mining engineer responsible for hand on supervision of mining development and production, employees' health and safety and mine rescue operations. The operation was producing circa 4 Mtpa using massive block caving mining method which involved substantial underground planning and development. A number of technical projects were conducted including analysis of safety, costs, and efficiencies of underground development. The study included evaluation of the mining cycle and making recommendations to step up development rates. Several mining equipment selection studies were completed.
Autoclave Oxidation Plant Commissioning (Apr 1995 – Sept 1996); Bakyrchik Gold Mine, BKG Resources, Bakyrchik, Kazakhstan
Lead operator in commissioning a new processing plant for gold refractory ores. The work involved startup of a new ore processing plant for an existing mining operation. The new processing plant consisted of crushing, milling, gravity, flotation and filtering circuits to produce concentrate for hydrometallurgical processing. The hydrometallurgical plant consisted of high-pressure, high-temperature nitric acid oxidation, CIP leaching, elution, electrowinning and final precious metal recovery.
- Mining during University Studies
Evaluation of Switching Open Pit to Underground Mining (April 1999); Northparkes Copper Mine, North Ltd., South Wales, Australia
Project engineer conducting technical and financial study to determine the optimum changeover time from open pit to underground mining method. The evaluation included comparison of capital and operating costs of open pit and block caving mining methods as well as assessment of technical feasibility of switching to underground mining.
Development of Secondary Breaking Strategy (June – September 1998); Finsch Diamond Mine, De Beers Ltd., North Cape, South Africa
Project engineer developing technically and financially feasible secondary breaking strategy for massive block caving diamond mining. The study included researching and testing technologies of reducing oversize rock to sizes manageable by underground loaders and selecting one that provided safety to personnel and stability of underground workings.
Mine Engineering Services (June – September 1997), Williams Gold Mine; Teck Corp., Northern Ontario, Canada
Engineering Technician surveying for underground development, conducting u/g ventilation surveys and monitoring extent of rock deterioration for mass gold underground production at circa 2 Mtpa using longhole stoping with cemented rock fill.
- Construction Engineering
Project Management Services for Construction Projects (Oct 2005 - June 2006); Savant (Russia) Ltd, Almaty, Kazakhstan
Project manager responsible for overall management of various residential/commercial construction projects. The responsibilities included selecting and managing design and construction contractors, liaising with government approving bodies, project scheduling, budgeting, cost and quality control.
Design and Build Soil and Water Treatment Facilities (Oct 2003 – May 2005); EnSafe Inc., Baku, Azerbaijan
Project manager responsible for design, construction and implementation of $3,000,000 oil contaminated land clean up project. The project included design and construction of access roads and office facilities, soil washing plant, water reservoirs and water treatment facilities, industrial waste landfill, bio-remediation facilities. The responsibilities included selecting and managing sub-contractors, liaising with clients and government bodies, specifying work scopes, purchasing materials, project scheduling and costing, recruiting staff.
- Oil & Gas
Safe Design of Oil Refinery Projects (Aug 2002 – Oct 2003); Chevron Corp., Tengiz, Kazakhstan
Project engineer responsible for safe design of projects intended to improve equipment and process reliability of the largest Oil Refinery in Central Asia. The responsibilities included technical review and approval of drawings and documents, specifying and requisitioning materials, project scheduling, costing, and closure.
