Task includes the assessment of Designer's design, assessment of contractors' tenders, contract management, site supervision, risk and safety management, quality management and project management. 2008 / 2009 Jacobs, Geotechnical Design Lead Engineer, UK Client: Costain A34 Wolvercote Viaduct Replacement ECI contract between Costain Ltd and the HA to replace the Wolvercote Viaduct on the A34. Jacobs were employed as designers to Costain. The project involves the on-line replacement of the existing bridge. To facilitate this, a temporary bridge, including piers, abutments and approach embankments is to be constructed adjacent to the existing bridge, which is then demolished. New permanent bridge foundations, piers and northbound deck are constructed and the temporary deck slide into position to form the new southbound deck. Work included interpretation of site investigation reports, design of new embankments, reinforced soil wall abutments and both temporary and permanent bridge pile foundations and writing of geotechnical interpretative report to Highway Agency Standard. Construction started 2008. Involved in risk assessment and management and quality management. Meeting with contractors. Client: Highway Agency M60 Junction 8 to 12 – Managed Motorway The M60 project in Manchester involves the widening of the existing 6.3km motorway. Jacobs were employed as designers. Specific project work includes the widening of embankments by retained fill. Work is on-going. Work includes writing of preliminary sources study report, specification of site investigation, geotechnical interpretative report and design of geotechnical structures. Client: Surrey County Council Forest Road Bridge The project involved the improvement of stability of the existing bridge embankments. The bridge and the embankments showed signs of movement. After considering several improvement options, cantilever walls at the edges of the embankment was selected and designed. Particular works included interpretation of site investigation reports, report writing, risk assessment and management of the ground conditions, design of retaining wall and construction works. Preparation of Design Basis Statement. Assessment of contractors' tenders. Involved in project management, risk and safety management and quality management. Client: Highway Agency A11 Five-ways to Thetford The project involved the dualisation of the existing 14.5 km single lane A11 Road and construction of a number of bypasses. Jacobs acts as Highway Agency Advisor. Particular work include assessment of existing site investigation results and the preparation of Annex A report to the Preliminary Sources Study. Client: McCain Foods PAS Waste Water Treatment The project involved the construction of welded steel tanks for waste water treatment The tanks varied in diameter from 3 m to 21 m and in height from 3m to 17 m. Work included the specification of site investigations, interpretation of site investigation result to obtain design parameters and design of foundations for the tanks. Involved in assessment of contractors' designs and tenders. Client: Environment Agency Orchard Wharf This project involved the replacement of degraded existing concrete retaining wall at the Orchard Wharf along River Thames. Particular work included ground characterization and design of steel sheet retaining wall. Client: Environment Agency Carlisle Flood Alleviation Scheme Particular works included ground characterization and design of foundation piles to carry vertical load, uplift and lateral load from L-shape flood water retaining wall. 2007/2009 Jacobs, Geotechnical Engineer, UK Client: Network Rail Blackfriars Station Redevelopment The redevelopment of Blackfriars Station consists of the realignment of the Network Rail tracks through the existing station, a new ticket hall, widening of the bridge over the Thames and its roofing over. In connection with the redevelopment of the Thameslink railway station, the Circle and District Line Underground station will also be comprehensively rebuilt to increase capacity and various buildings and the London Underground Limited (LUL) ticket hall will be demolished. Work included interpretation of site investigation reports and design of the retaining walls for planned excavation around LUL station according to BS 8002 - due to the depth of the excavations propping is required for the retaining walls. Estimation of ground horizontal and vertical movements due to installation and excavation. Design of foundation for railway bridge abutment. Writing of geotechnical interpretative report. Client: Highway Agency Gatwick Airport South Terminal Qatar Petroleum Complex Project (QPCP), Qatar Proposed Headquarter complex for Qatar Petroleum. Complex comprises a series of buildings between 5 and 20 stories, with basement car parks. Work included interpretation of site investigation report and design of shallow foundations on rock. AAC Ethylene Amines Project, Saudi Arabia Construction of new plants, administration offices and roads. Work included Specification of Site Investigations and Design of Foundations. 2004 – 2006 2002 Pios Hydro-geophysical and Engineering Services Ltd, Nigeria - Geologist Supervision of site investigation for roads, buildings and dam construction.
