Geologist grade I
Geological survey of Tanzania is the Government Executive Agency established in 2005, as a custodian of National geoscientific data and information.
Duties and Responsibilities:

1) To measure, record and interpret geophysical (seismic, gravity, magnetic) geological and geochemical data and information in regional mapping, mineral and oil exploration and earthquake monitoring.

2) To keep rock, mineral and oil geological records.

3) To prepare geological, geophysical and geochemical reports and IV submit to superiors.

4) To supervise the use and maintenance of technical instruments and equipment.

5) To lead and supervise technicians in Mineral and oil exploration or in a geological mapping programme.

6) To train small scale miners on the Mining Acts and its Regulations and issues regarding mining and processing technologies and mineral marketing.

7) To keep and maintain export and mineral promotions data and statistics.

8) To monitor salt iodations programmes.

April 2004 – November 2006
Geotechnical Geologist

Geita Gold mine Tanzania, the second largest Goldmine in Africa and whole owned by AngloGoldAshanti Company.

I hold the position of Geotechnical Geologist–Operations.

The position is responsible for geotechnical assessment of mid to long term mining plans. Key functions are;

1) Slope stability monitoring of pit walls, waste dumps and tailings dam using both manually and automated operated systems, Quick Slope, AutoSlope and Ground Probe Radar.

Designing and installation of monitoring systems, daily pit inspections aiming at revealing new geotechnical hazards as mining progress and the behaviour of the existing ones.

2) Geotechnical 3D model building of the pits with the use of available resources, like Sirovision imaging systems, Vulcan, Minemapper and other methods of mapping.

3) Assisting Superintendent Geotechnical Engineer in Ground Control Management Plan implementation and supervision.

4) Ground and Surface water data management with the use of Aquascape, the Aquaterra developed database meanwhile assisting in plan of dewatering of the in pit surface and ground water. This comprises of looking for the surface water surrounding pit environment, supervising and planning dewatering boreholes and piezometers.

5) Geotechnical reports preparations, covering all ad hoc, weekly, and monthly and pit completion reports.

6) Bench Operating Plan set up involvement, with Geotechnical inputs.

7) Focusing on excellent perimeter mining plan by achieving best results with drill and blasting activities.

8) Planning, supervising and logging of diamond and reverse circulation drilling programmes as a part of increasing/ ascertaining geotechnical comprehension for the running pits and proposed ones, and also for water boreholes and piezometric purposes.

9) Developing/Mentoring junior staff and visitors on geotechnical aspects. Running presentation in regards to the geotechnical hazards around the working environment.

11) Working with/ facilitate consultants working with us in tasks involving geotechnical issues like George Orr, and Associates and Hydrology issues like Aquattera.

April 2002 – April 2004
Mine Geologist
The position I held at Geita Gold Mining Limited was Mine Geologist working as part of the geological team responsible for general mapping and grade control in the three open pits; Nyankanga, Lone Cone and Kukuluma.
The key functions are;
1) Encourage safe work practises for all subordinates
2) The daily management of ore mining and ore management to the ROM pad
3) Achieve the monthly and weekly mine plan and budget costs, grade and tonnes for the year and plan work to meet these deadlines and operational targets
4) Organise and supervise the mine technician – production and ore mining
5) Understand blast movement control rigs
6) Daily production statistics in the and ore block demarcation is correct
7) The management of the RC grade production reporting system
8) Communicate dilution issues with ore control spotters and mapping geologists
9) Acid mine drainage material boundaries are mined correctly and delivered to their correct destination
10) Grade control holes are being backfilled properly and to schedule
11) Supervise any mining related dilution control issues.
12) A full understanding of the geology and orebody characteristics
13) Implement new technical or dilution control procedural improvements
14) Manage daily stores requirements for mark out, mining and sampling

October 2000 – April 2002
Exploration geologist
The position I held at Northern mining (under Pangea minerals co LTD) on contract basis at Karumwa area was exploration geologist as part of the geological team responsible for:

1. Conducting Geological Mapping, Trench and Pit mapping and soil sampling.
2. Assist with planning and running all exploration in the project area as directed by senior exploration Geologist and Superintendents.
3. Plan (in conjunction with seinior exploration geologist), monitor and account for exploration expenditure within the project area with regular reports to senior management.
4. Assist time tabling of annual exploration programme to ensure results based exploration and the optimum use of time and resources.
5. Assist in coordinating and supervising the duties of exploration junior staff and casual labourers to ensure the most effective use of the workforce.
6. Coordinate, dispatch and monitor all samples to the lab.
7. Liaise with mining personnel to ensure smooth interaction exploration activities with mining.
8. Organise and prepare technical,monthly and quarterly detailed report.

July 2000 Graduated at University of Dar es salaam; where I got a Bachelor of Science in Geology.

August –October 1999.

Geological mapping at Anglobase metal, Kabanga Nickel Project as part of my final year at the University of Dar es salaam. At the same time the authour was working as Trainee mineral exploration geologist at the site.
