Objective

I have 28 years experience in the maintenance departments of 2 top notch companies in South Africa. The experience gained on the shop floor level up to the management level can be utilized positively by any reputable company. I have gained vast experience in technical faultfinding and problem solving, mostly in the shortest time due to process requirements. As a manager I was the leader of a well performed maintenance team. I was always striving to have the best maintenance team in the company and through good conflict management, industrial relations and lead by example I could achieve it. In 2005 I have received a "Best Manager of the Year" award in the company. I am looking forward to a challenging and rewarding career in maintenance or engineering.

Maintenance Foreman
In 1996 I was offered the position as Maintenance Foreman. My responsibilities included the following.
The planning, organizing and management of the electrical, instrumentation and mechanical sections of a maintenance department in a top water purification company. My staff complement consists of 3 foremen and about 80 skilled and support staff.
The establishing and monitoring of Maintenance Management Programs (preventative, predictive, corrective) through root cause analysis (RCA).
The supervision and involvement in the hiring, evaluating, training and disciplining of skilled, technical and support staff.
The developing, recommendation and administering of procedures, policies and processes in support of plant and operational maintenance requirements.
Monitor, oversee and taking responsibility of the company's SHE initiatives. (Safety, health and environment).
Monitor, liaise and oversee the work of external contractors and to ensure that terms of agreements are met and that work is completed satisfactorily.
The participation in the development and administration of maintenance budget, the coordination and allocation of resources following the maintenance budget approval and the recommendation and approval of maintenance expenditures.
Participate in and on various meetings, committees, task forces, projects and workshops.
The drafting of SLA's with different suppliers, service departments and contractors. (Service level agreements)
Working with diverse academic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of staff.
Utilizing computer technology and programs for communication, data gathering and reporting. (SAP, Maximo etc.)
The administering of procurement management activities associated with the maintenance department, which may include: monitoring spending on projects, the recommendation and implementation of corrective spending plans, reviewing and authorizing purchase orders, administering of contracts, assist finance department with the obtaining of price quotes, and the approval of the maintenance department petty cash purchases.
Assists operations department and corporate engineering with planning capital expenditures and recommending contracts.
Ensures quick response to downtime situations affecting production.
Monitors level of service with work orders and ensures work completed as required to meet the needs of the operations department.
Communicating effectively through oral and written mediums.

Instrumentation Supervisor
In 1994 I took over the duties as an Instrument Supervisor. I and my team were responsible for the maintenance of the most hi-tech water purification plant in the company.
The planning, organizing and management of the instrumentation section as part of the maintenance department of a top water purification company. My staff complement consists of 3 Instrument Engineering Assistants and 7 Instrumentation mechanics and contracted skilled and support staff.
To work in close co-ordination with Maintenance Foreman to plan, coordinate, supervise and direct the work of Instrument Technicians and Contract personnel to perform all Instrument related duties.
To participate in specialized & complex instrument repairs and troubleshooting of PLC and DCS systems. Attend breakdowns, start-up and commissioning of new plant when required.
To provide assistance and support to major and minor projects, plant changes etc. as and when required.
To co-ordinate with other sections in prioritizing, planning and scheduling of work related to the instrumentation section.
To develop and recommend innovative systems/procedures that contribute to improve the reliability, availability and integrity of the plant.
To review and evaluate KPI's (key performance indicators) of the instrumentation staff.
To review budget allocation and to take necessary action to meet the Instrument section's targets.
To ensure the proper and optimum use of materials and resources. Allocate work and conduct toolbox meetings to ensure understanding of the task required and the safe implementation of it.
Participate in the monitoring/controlling of section and department expenditure.
To maintain drawings/documents and to ensure that they are updated regularly. Ensure the availability of these documents at the respective work areas.
To provide and assist with the training needs of staff as required.

Instrument Engineering Assistant
I started with Rand Water on a contract basis where my duties included the maintenance on all the process control instrumentation on a Water Purification plant.
After the completion of my contract I was offered a permanent position as Instrument Engineering Assistant. I was responsible for instrumentation projects on pumps, lime kilns; lime slaking plant, sand filtration and chlorine plants. My maintenance responsibilities included various flow, pressure, temperature and analyzer process control instrumentation.

Instrument Mechanic/Technician
I started my apprenticeship as an Instrument Mechanic with Sasol who is a leading petro-chemical company in South Africa. After completion of my apprenticeship I was offered a position as an Instrument Mechanic at Sasol's Steam and Water works plant. My duties entailed the installation, calibration and maintenance of all process control instruments on the plant. Later in my career with Sasol I was more involved with the optimization of boiler plant and steam turbine controls.
