Summary of Experience
I am a Metallurgical Engineer with over ten years in-depth working experience in the mining / metals extraction industry. Has been exposed to metallurgical research, process control, process modelling, mineral processing plants, smelting environment and production planning. Currently I am a Process Improvements Metallurgist with Zimasco (Pvt) Ltd Ferrochrome Operations, a concern that comprises six Electrical Arc Furnaces, one Induction furnace and a Metal Recovery Plant with an annual production of over 200,000 tonnes of ferrochrome and a labour complement of 3000 employees. My present role involves management of process projects, the inception of new projects and optimising of plant operations through research, plant trials and running of process models.

Responsibilities
* The management of process projects, the inception of new projects. Responsible for maintaining Metallurgical Engineering Practise in a plant that comprises six Electrical Arc Furnaces, 1 Induction furnace and a Metal Recovery Plant with an annual production of over 200,000 tonnes of ferrochrome and a labour complement of 3000 employees.
* Enhancing the organisation's viability by reducing systems variability and optimising on chromium units recovery through continuous process improvements initiatives and focused research.
* Focusing and managing strategically on the external environment, keeping track of the economic, technological and environmental factors, thereby ensuring the organisation's long term viability and growth.
* Running and interpretation of process operational models (including LOP Simulations and Pyro-sim) aimed at improving operational efficiencies and benchmarking the process.
* Management of manpower and allocated material resources as well as annual operational budgets for the department.
* Ensuring the organisation's continued compliance to safety standards (NOSA), quality standards (ISO 9001: 2000) as well as statutory regulations.
Achievements
* Establishment of the top-size fraction at which the best chrome liberation and optimum chrome recovery occurs, designing of a conceptual flow sheet and recommendations towards modification of the existing metal recovery plant for the re-processing of the tailings dump. The facility recovers about 600 tonnes of ferrochrome alloy per month from the tailings dump thus increasing company annual revenue by over US$4.2 million.
Ongoing Projects/Initiatives
* Test work and design of a conceptual flow sheet for the upgrading of elluvial chromite ore fines. Work being done includes ore characterisation, determination of particle size distribution, chromite distribution and level of free iron. The project seeks to recommend an effective mineral processing flow sheet as well as the best equipment for optimum chromite recovery. The project also seeks to establish the process route to use to extract Nickel and Cobalt from the elluvials.

Responsibilities
* Monitoring and controlling performance of production units so as to ensure timely intervention when the quality/quantity of outputs do not match inputs. The production units included crushing and screening circuits, heavy media separation, gravity separation using batac, delkor and velco jigs and also diamond pans.
* Checking operations practice with standard metallurgical practise and metallurgical trouble-shooting.
* Developing, implementing and monitoring procedures as well as practises of production units
* Initiating and execution of process improvement projects
* Sales and logistics within Zimbabwe. Ensuring the timely movement of alloy wagons up to the Zimbabwean Border.
2)Steelmaking Manager – Ziscosteel (Pvt) Ltd
01 February 2005 to 31 January 2006
Responsibilities
* Managing daily activities of the department comprising eight sections
* Developing strategies, set annual objectives to achieve departmental business targets
* Formulating the budget and monitoring its implementation, controlling costs
* Ensuring production targets are met through the management of a multi-disciplinary team including maintenance engineers maximising on plant availability and utilization

* Managing daily activities at the Ladle Furnace
* Ensuring production targets are met through the management of a multi-disciplinary team including maintenance engineers maximising on plant availability and production personnel on utilisation

Successfully changed the casting start-up from sand-sealing method to disk-sealing resulting in 20% rise in successful start-up.
Modified charge model calculation for the BOF operation to improve accuracy of turndown and reduce reblow rate. 10% reduction in reblow rate achieved.
5) Metallurgist– Chase Minerals
Duration 01 June 1998 to 31 October 1999
Chase Minerals was an Australian owned mine producing up to 90kgs of gold per month. It was an open pit operation employing about 100 people. It was using a revolutionary method of resin in pulp. I was employed as a metallurgist and was responsible for:

* Management of leach pads, adsorption and elution using resin

* Waste control using sulphiding
