Contract work for United Minerals Corporation (Perth).
Current project:
Sitewide hydrogeochemical assessment of the Railway Deposit, Hamersley Basin of Western Australia. The project involves a predictive hydrogeochemical assessment of the pit-lake and groundwater. Results will assist in defining potential long-term environmental effects that may derive from a proposed expansion of the mining areas.
Completed project:
Geochemical waste rock characterisation (GWRC): Implications for waste rock management: The project involved the overall management of the geochemical characterisation of the mine-waste rock for the development of the Railway Deposit, Hamersley Basin of Western Australia.

Jan 2008 – March 2009
Senior Environmental Geoscientist

GHD is an international professional services company providing leadership in management, engineering, the environment, planning and architecture.
Key duties
Hydrogeology and hydrogeochemical evaluation of contaminated sites and groundwater contamination.
Hydrogeology and hydro-geochemical assessment (e.g., solute transport and processes) of waste rock dump (WRD)/tailing storage facilities (TSF) at mine sites.
ARD investigations and related project management.
Acid sulphate soils (ASS) investigations and related management.
Key projects and achievements
Red Sand Investigation, Centre for Sustainable Resource Processing (CSRP)
In addition to the evaluation for the potential of acid sulphate soil (PASS) and the hydrogeological characteristics of the site, the role included to coordinate the assessment of the hydrogeochemical and geochemical properties of the sand.
Marillana Creek realignment, Yandi, Western Australia.
Managed the geochemical, hydrogeology and hydrogeochemical components of the project, and also completed the long–term predictive hydrogeochemical modelling of the three options assessed; do nothing, diversion scenario and pit-infilling scenarios.
D-Dam Environmental Assessment, Bluestone Mines Pty Ltd
As part of the preparation of a Notice of Intent and DPEMP for a proposed tailings dam, completed the preliminary predictive geochemical modelling using data adapted to a box model of a reservoir, 3 rivers and several seepage tailing discharge points.
Hydrogeochemical/hydrogeological evaluation of the proposed Western Extension, Kemerton Silica Sand Pty Ltd.
Developed and completed a predictive hydrogeochemical assessment of the pit-lake in relation to groundwater seasonal fluctuations to define potential long-term environmental effects that may result from a proposed expansion of the mining areas.
Soil and aquatic sediment monitoring, Woodcutters, Northern Territory
In addition to the management of the project, duties involved the geochemical and hydrogeochemical assessment of substrate-sediment and groundwaters to define sources of metal contamination encountered within previous operational areas, biopolishing pond and banks of the Woodcutter stream.
Provisional hydrogeochemical modelling of Goldsworthy Mine Pit-Lake and Billy-Goat Hill Waste Dump Remediation
Participate in the evaluation of the data resulting from a geochemical waste rock characterization of the Goldsworthy Mine. Also, developed and completed a predictive geochemical modeling to define the long-term pit-lake water chemistry as affected by the proposed disposal of potentially acid forming (PAF) waste rock materials.
WO5H Pit-Lake hydrogeological and hydrogeochemical investigations, Western Australia
Participated in the assessment of the groundwater behavior and quality of the site. Additionally, to define if there is the likelihood of contaminated seepage leaving the WO5H pit-lake, completed the provisional long-term pit-lake hydrogeochemical modeling.

May 2006 – December 2007
Senior Environmental Geoscientist
Earth-Water-Life Sciences Pty Ltd (EWL) (Energy Resources Australia Pty Ltd – Rio Tinto Group)
EWLS is a company of highly qualified and experienced environmental specialists based in Darwin but with staff in Victoria, Western Australia and Queensland.
Key duties
My role within the Earth and Water team predominantly addresses topics related to hydrogeochemistry, hydrogeology and soil science (both soil physics and chemistry).

Projects managed and achievements
Groundwater remediation beneath the Ranger Uranium Mine tailing storage facility (TSF).
Managed and planned bore drilling and groundwater monitoring programs to understand TSF seepage processes and their interaction with groundwaters beneath and around the TSF. This has been targeted as a key project to understand soil/substrate/seepage/groundwater interactions and therefore the scope of the studies were expanded and investigations in relation to closure and rehabilitation continues to date.
Review of Rangers statutory and operational boreholes as part of the long-term minesite rehabilitation programme
Overall project management in relation to closure and long-term mine site rehabilitation. Reviewed the validity of statutory and operational groundwater monitoring programs in relation to long-term site-wide groundwater management.
Phase 2 contamination in the Regolith groundwater (Ranger Mine Operational and Landfill Areas)
To develop long-term plans to rehabilitate the operational areas in relation to Ranger mine site closure, the project achieved a hydrological, geochemical and hydrogeochemical evaluation of deep regolith materials within the contaminated sites.
Assessment of water quality & the origin of surface pools – Ranger TSF
The project was undertaken to collate and interpret historical and recent water quality data from samples attained in observation bores (OBs) and seepage pools near the TSF. Hydrogeochemistry data evaluation and geochemical modelling were the key tools to interpret overall seepage pool water quality behaviour and its influences on the surrounding environment.
Aquatic sediment monitoring (Woodcutters)
The project, as part of EWLS bench-mark exercise, completed a geochemical characterisation and evaluation of fate and spatial distribution of metals in sediments within the mine biopolishing pond and creek sediments from Woodcutters and Coomalie Creeks.
Installation of observation boreholes and piezometers around Ranger's TSF
Managed and supervised the implementation of 18 boreholes to monitor groundwater behaviour and potential contamination due to TSF seepage influences and groundwater pattern modifications resulting from the raising of the TSF walls was the key objective of the project.

November 2005 – February 2006
