Overall management (Short term & Strategic) of Health and Safety at Obuasi Mine
-Successfully organized Safety road show for the Managing Director for the over 6000 employees.

1.2 Risk Management Superintendent - (Jan 2005- Jan 2008)

-Conducting a baseline risk assessment for each process area and review it at least every two years.

-Facilitating Issue Based risk assessment as identified from the baseline, change management or requests.

-Monitoring the implementation of control measures to manage exposure to identified risk.

-Monitoring and reviewing the effectiveness of control measures.

-Monitoring the effectiveness of the continuous risk assessment programme by:

-Ensuring that Safety officers conduct inspections at the workplace.
-Ensuring the capturing of such inspections into a Database Management System (IRMS2000) and use the Queries functions of the system to generate:
o Average Inspection Compliance o Risk Rating of workplaces Over Time

-Ensuring that a follow-up on issues identified from the inspection is conducted.

-Reviewing the accident / incident analysis and make the appropriate recommendations.

-Reviewing the personal protective equipment analysis based on information from risk assessments

-Assisting in the development and review of standards, procedures and codes of practice.

-Collating reports from the safety, health and environmental and the ventilation sections of the SHE DEPT. to produce a common SHE monthly report.

-Collating daily accident reports from the various sections of the mine and update serious injury "Watchdog" daily and weekly reports for top management (Obuasi and Corporate Office).

-Analysis of injury statistics for Obuasi mine to identify trends and problem areas and inform top management as such.

-Serve as Risk Assurer in the Enterprise Wide Risk Management process, using a Software package
(IRM.Net - EwRM)

* Developed a database system for injury incident management which was later migrated to Integrated Risk management System (IRMS2000)

* Ensure the correspondence between the mine and statutory bodies such as:

2.1 Safety Engineer - Underground Mining (June 2000-December 2004)

-Responsible for the Safety of all employees and machinery in the section.

-Coordinates the safety programme geared towards promotion of safety and health and prevention of personal injuries and property damage at an Underground Manager's section of the mine.

-Identification and correction of unsafe work practices or conditions before accidents occur, through regular inspections and fostering the safety attitude among the workforce during these visits.

-Ensuring that all the statutory requirements that have a bearing on occupational health and safety are complied with.

-Conducting investigations into the causes of all accidents including fatalities, recommending and enforcing the implementation of remedial measures to prevent recurrences.

-Conducting periodic on – the – job training for the various categories of workers to raise their safety awareness to ensure they carry out their tasks safely.

-Preparing and submitting to Overseers/Departmental Heads accident/incident reports keeping them informed of trends, recommending and implementing corrective or preventative measures where necessary.
