Coking Coal Laboratory Specialist / Data Coordinator/Laboratory supervisor

CURRENT JOB RESPONSIBILITY (Advanced Coal Technology)

General responsibilities includes, but not limited, to:

Ensuring the safe and efficient running of the laboratory in accordance with safety and quality system.

Management of projects in the laboratory.

Supervise and assist with training in the laboratory.

Assign priorities.

Major responsibilities includes, but not limited, to:

Evaluate raw data from technicians and conducts required calculations.

Prepare and update Microsoft Word and Excel files.

Reports directly to clients.

Provide technical expertise to the laboratory staff in the event of equipment/analysis failure.

Director responsibilities:

Management of Quality by implementing and maintain ISO/IEC 17025: General requirements for the competence of calibration and testing laboratories

To get nationally accredited status by an authoritative body, such as the
South African National Accreditation System (SANAS).

Development and achievements:

* After completing my 2 year National Service in the SA Army I applied for a career position at ISCOR.

* Started at ISCOR, Research & Development, Chemical Technology as a Laboratory Assistant from February 9, 1989

* Successfully completed a 2 year training program with excellent work throughput and accuracy.

* Rotating work stations for the following 4 years had increased my technical knowledge of the equipment..

* In my 7th year I was nominated to undergo training as a data coordinator for ad-hoc and bore-hole exploration samples.

* In my 8th year I was appointed as a Junior Data Coordinator, mainly concentrating on the ad-hock samples and in the same year I applied for a Senior Coordinator position (supervisor level)

* I was appointed as Senior Coordinator.

* After our department went through a clean sheet redesign process, I had to take over the data coordinating of both the ad-hock and bore-hole exploration areas.

* Except for the data coordinating and supervising I identified 4 work procedures that need to be improved to uplift the quality of the results.

* In February 2001 our section, then known as Kumba Resources, Researched & Development, Coal Technology, formed part of an outsourced initiative from Kumba Resources.

* After a few strategy meetings (involved all the members of the section) we decided to operate as an independent company, Advanced Coal Technology.
