CONTACT INFORMATION:
After completing a BSc Honours in Geology in 1997 at the University of the Witwatersrand (WITS) I started working at Anglogold in 1998. I worked as a geologist for 18 months of which 3 months I was in Botswana doing exploration work. Following that I spent 2 years working in the UK doing various contractual jobs. I completed a MCSE & Compaq Server Accreditation prior to working in the UK. In total I have approximately 2 years commercial experience in IT. I returned to South Africa after 2 years abroad and started working for Anglo Platinum as a Senior Geologist and worked for them for a period of 2 ½ years. Following that I was employed with Surpac Minex Africa now known as Gemcom Software International as a technical consultant and was with them for 21 months. At Surpac Minex Africa I was involved in project work, consulting work, training as well as marketing.
I currently reside in the Democratic Republic of Congo and am employed by First Quantum Minerals at their Frontier Mine. I have been working here on the copperbelt in the DRC for the past 25 months and now live on site at Frontier mine. I am currently employed as a Mine Planner. Current work involves designing pits from Whittle and geotech constraints, overseeing the grade control and setup of the grade control system. I have setup the short term and long term scheduling for the mine using Minesched scheduling package. These schedules are used for the budget. All schedules and pit designs were approved by head office consultants in Perth. Other tasks involves regular presentations to managerial staff, external auditors and visitors. I do the survey reconciliations every week and at end of month which are reported to head office. The entire Survey department reports to myself as well as a Mining Engineer graduate. I have setup the drill and blast design system and passed this onto our mining graduate who handles this on a daily basis, I am also conversant with basic tcl scripting and use tcl regularly to automate day to day tasks.
I am now heavily involved in the expansion of a trial underground stoping project for Lonshi Mine, I have done some of the initial underground designs for development and stoping. In addition I am now also involved in the design work for the sinking of a new shaft on Frontier Mine and the design work for the underground development that will continue from this shaft. I feel the experience gained from my work at the underground mines in South Africa at Anglogold and Anglo Platinum combined with the open pit experience at Frontier Mine (copper mine) has given me diverse experience in all commodities both underground and open pit. Experience gained from all these new projects (Frontier Mine, Lonshi decline, Frontier Shaft Sinking) as well as past experience in already operating mines has broadened my work experience and knowledge dramatically. Working for Surpac Minex and travelling to the vast number of mines throughout Africa has also exposed me to various mining methods and mineral deposits.
I have done several feasibility studies whilst working at Surpac Minex Africa, I know the fundamentals of Geostats to get to a resource model. Whilst at Surpac I have worked extensively in Africa (Namibia, Botswana, Kenya, Zambia, Tanzania & Ghana) and further abroad (Australia, Saudi Arabia & Azerbaijan) and so have a broad knowledge of different mineral deposits. I have full time working experience as well as consulting experience on both the open cast and underground mines. In addition to my geological background I have been exposed to the engineering side of mining in my current job and feel this compliments my previous qualifications and experience. In terms of PC literacy I consider my skills to be highly proficient, using packages such as Gemcom Surpac, Datamine, Minesched and most other Microsoft packages.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact me on the number above in the DRC or alternatively my email mtuckersa@gmail.com.
My reason for wanting to leave the DRC / South Africa and move to the UK is due to the fact that I have obtained a 3 year work visa for the UK (Tier 1 visa) and now wish to move and work in the UK. I have recently become a father some 10 months ago and have no plans to move back to South Africa. I have worked in the UK previously for 2 years and only left as a result of my visa expiring. I now have a Tier 1 visa for 3 years upon which a 2 year extension can be obtained thereafter allowing me to stay in the UK indefinitely. I plan to settle and remain in the UK. I also have immediate family that live in the UK.
If you have any queries or questions regarding any of the information provided or require any additional information please don't hesitate to contact on the email address or telephone number above.
