- Order of magnitude estimate for a thallium nitrate production facility

In charge of Process Engineering Department and Chemical Analytical Laboratory 1991-1996
Process Engineering group with 5 engineers and Chemical Analytical Laboratory group with a total of 28. Responsibilities in the Process Engineering side were of two types:
Routines:
- Evaluation of the daily operation of the flash smelting furnace and establish conditions of the furnaces
- Evaluation of the gases systems by gas velocity and composition measurements
- Weekly, monthly and annual forecast for production. Five and ten year forecast for investments
Projects:
- Control philosophy of air-oxygen requirements for the flash smelting furnace controlling oxygen enrichment, oxygen coefficient considering the oxygen liberated by re-circulated dust
- Reduction of arsenic and antimony content in anode copper
- Treatment of gases from electric furnaces and fugitives. Project consisting of measuring gases to determine the size of a baghouse, fan and stack

Involved in “La Caridad” Expansion Project consisting of the addition of a Teniente converter, new sulphuric acid plant and oxygen plant. Represented the owner at the engineering consultant's facilities in Chile during the design stage - 1996

Chemical Analytical Laboratory consisted of the following areas:
- Fire assay for analysis of gold and silver, instrumental for analysis of impurities and process materials with AA, ICP, Leco and X Ray equipment, wet analysis for concentrates and fluxes, electrochemical analysis for copper product, special analysis for process water and sulphuric acid, microbiological analysis for food and drinking water

Process Engineering Department Head 1986 – 1991
Responsibilities were:
- Scheduling of operational activities of the flash furnace, two electric furnaces, three copper converters and two anode furnaces. Establishment of the mode of operation for the electric furnaces
- Study of the reduction efficiency of the propane in the anode furnaces
- Material and heat balances adapted to real conditions
- Gases systems adjustments by realizing gas velocity, and composition and isokinetic dust load measurements before sulphuric acid plant start-up
- Determination of the optimum conditions of the furnaces in order to reach the maximum utilization of the acid plant
- Improvement of the quality of the dust generated from the flash furnace to avoid obstructions in the waste heat boiler and damage to electrostatic precipitators

Process Engineer 1982– 1986
As part of the start-up team for “La Caridad” Smelter my responsibilities were:
- Furnace heat-up procedures and monitor of same
- Development of operational data sheet and procedures for operators and control room
- Assisted Boilers’ Manufacturer in the chemical cleaning of the waste heat boiler and direct fired boiler
- Chemical cleaning of oxygen lines

Process Engineer 1982-1985
As part of the engineering team for “La Caridad” Smelter Project my responsibilities were:
- Material and heat balances for the concentrate dryer, flash smelting furnace, copper converters, anode furnaces, steam generation
- Combustion calculations
- Fluid flow calculations
- Development of flow sheet diagrams

SPECIAL TRAINING:
Mining and Metallurgy Course by JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) in Kosaka, Japan for 4 months – 1993

Training for the start-up of “La Caridad” Smelter in Rio Tinto Minera Smelter (now Atlantic Copper) in Huelva, Spain, for 5 weeks and also in a Copper Smelter belonging to Grupo Mexico for 5 weeks - 1985
