WORK EXPERIENCE

In 1995 I joined the ZR Police Signals Branch as a Trainee Radio Technician.
Did apprenticeship training with the Zimbabwe Republic Police from 1995 to 1998.Training included the concepts of Electronic communication, going into the service, repair, installation and maintenance of radio communication equipment and the associated ancillaries.

POST TRAINEE RADIO TECHNICIAN

Training included;
-General workshop procedure and control of equipment.
-Stores procedure, identification of components, resistor colour coding
-Soldering and de-soldering techniques.
-Vehicle fittings, use and care of tools.
- Repairs on handsets, headphones and loudspeakers. Simple fault finding on PA systems.
-Battery charging and care of Lead acid batteries and specific gravity checks.
-Aerial installations, coaxial cables Standing Wave Ratios checks and testing of diodes and transistors.
-Operation of all signals equipment and repair of electronic ancillary equipment
-Use of Technical manuals for circuit explanation, identification of components and circuit layout
Fault finding techniques, localization of faults and alignment of transceivers in the HF SSB, VHF and UHF bands.

POST HIGHER RADIO TECHNICIAN

After training duties have involved the above and
Detailed study and repair of complex faults up to component level on all types of transceivers in use in the Z.R.P i.e.
HF SSB
These include
Racal PRM 4051, TR 15 B and TR 15 H
Data Transmission Systems (D.T.S); Datron TW7000, RT 7000 and PRC 1099. These include computer aided D.T.S and stand-alone voice transmission.

VHF: These include WRS C73 a VHF amplitude modulated system.
Supersonic TRA 1023 amplitude modulated system
Motorola GP 300 portable radios
GM 300 mobile and base station frequency modulated system

UHF FM systems; Motorola GP 300 and GM 300. Icom portables and mobiles
On the Motorola and Icom radios the repair and service includes re-programming the radios.
Repair of Motorola GR 500 repeaters and General Electric repeaters both in the VHF and UHF bands.
-Vehicle installations of mobile radios
-Aerial installations at new sites and bases and their maintenance
-Repair of repeaters
-Programming radios.
Repair of other electronic equipment up to component level, these include
-Televisions
-VCRs
-Hi-fi
-CD Players

POST SENIOR RADIO TECHNICIAN

-Duties involve the above and,
-Training of junior Technicians working under me.
-After hours standby duties
-Administrative day-to-day running of the workshop.
