EMPLOYMENT HISTORY
Rinker Materials, Inc., January 1999 to Present
Rinker produces construction aggregate, asphalt, and ready mixed concrete. It was recently United Metro Materials, a division of Kiewit Materials Company, which sold to Rinker Materials in October 2002. I serve as the Equipment Manager for the Arizona region.
* Reduced mobile equipment maintenance cost from $50.2 million in 2001 to $45.7 million in 2002.
* Served as special projects manager on a plant relocation which included moving a concrete batch plant, two aggregate crushing operations, aggregate wash plant, asphalt plant, and maintenance shop. The project also included the installation of a new batch plant, water clarification system, truck scales, truck wheel washer and administration office.
* Implemented a program to identify low use and idle equipment. This reduced the fleet size in ancillary and transportation equipment while sales and production volumes increased. 2001 surplus equipment sales exceeded $2 million.
* Eliminated shop related lost time accidents and reduced recordable accidents in the maintenance department by implementing a Job Hazard Analysis program.
P.T. Freeport Indonesia, April 1992 to June 1998
This copper mine operates surface and underground mines with combined production of 220,000 tons of ore per day. My initial position was Senior Planning Engineer – Logistics with steady advancement to Superintendent of Maintenance Planning & Component Rebuild Shop, Superintendent of Component Rebuild Shop & Mile 74 Heavy Duty Shop, Superintendent of Tramways & Material Handling, General Superintendent of Tramways & Mine Services, and finally General Superintendent of Mine Support Equipment.
* Received President's Award for submitting and implementing significant cost cutting measures.
* Researched, specified and commissioned an oil analysis laboratory to provide accurate and timely condition monitoring for all maintenance groups throughout the contract of work area.
* Served as team member for the implementation of two computerized maintenance management systems.
* Initiated a program to rebuild track dozers off site which required coordination with customs agencies in Indonesia and Australia as well as vendors, shipping agencies, and company purchasing personnel.
* Assumed duties of Mine Maintenance Manager on demand.
* Upgraded equipment in the Component Rebuild Shop which increased the output and improved the reliability of the component rebuild program.
* Completed emergency repairs and counterweight tower replacement of Service Tram #1, the primary freight conveyance for the mining operation, following a landslide.
* Upgraded control and drive system for Service Tram #1 to increase freight configuration speed from 3 meters/second to 5 m/s and passenger configuration speed from 5 m/s to 7.5 m/s.
* Sponsored the design and construction of a mine water collection and distribution system. Worked with mine technical services group to identify catchment locations and pipeline routes to provide reliable water to four office buildings, three shop complexes and the mine warehouse.
* Decommissioned Ore Tram #3 - the last of Freeport's operating aerial ore tramways. Prepared a cost analysis showing that maintaining this tramway in standby condition was not cost effective.
* Temporarily assigned to Crescent Technology, Inc. to perform a safety and industrial health audit of P.T. ALatieF P&O Port Development Company. This company is responsible to Freeport for operating and maintaining the logistics and marine equipment fleet that support Freeport's mining operations.
ASARCO Mission Complex, March 1990 to April 1992
A copper mining and milling operation located in southern Arizona producing 54,000 mtpd. My position was Senior Mechanical Engineer reporting to the Mechanical Superintendent.
* Designed and directed the installation of a pit dewatering system.
* Directed contractor on an upgrade to the mill flotation system.
* Oversaw contracts for infrastructure design and construction including six additional bays for the truck maintenance shop, warehouse additions, and additions to the haul truck fuel/service facility.
* Designed and oversaw construction of a heavy equipment washing facility to meet state and federal requirements for mine water runoff quality.
* Selected and supervised contractors for the removal of thirteen underground storage tanks and associated environmental remediation of contaminated soils.
* Coordinated the implementation of Maximo, a computerized maintenance management system.
* Established contracts for shovel dipper rebuilds at off mine site locations. Wrote rebuild specifications for each dipper type and monitored progress on each contract. This significantly reduced dipper rebuild cost and turnaround time.
Kiewit Eastern Company, August 1988 to March 1990
A subsidiary of Peter Kiewit Sons, Inc. involved in heavy and highway construction in northeastern United States. I served as the equipment superintendent on a $50 million renovation and expansion of two dams and hydroelectric plants located in central New York State.
Decker Coal Company, June 1981 to August 1988
A subsidiary of Peter Kiewit Sons, Inc. located in southern Montana produced 13 million tons of coal per year. My initial position was Maintenance Engineer. I also held positions as Maintenance Foreman for mine mobile equipment, Mine Planning Engineer, and Maintenance Foreman for shovels, drills, and draglines.
* Developed a program for forecasting the economic life of mobile equipment.
Black Butte Coal Company, June 1980 to August 1980
A subsidiary of Peter Kiewit Sons, Inc. located in southern Wyoming. I served as an engineering intern on the erection of a Bucyrus-Erie 1570 dragline. Duties included preparing as-built drawings of the centralized lubrication system, assisting the project engineer on component alignment and welding quality documentation.
