Conduct split spoon sampling and penetrometer testing.
Supervise and conduct materials laboratory activities as concrete and asphalt testing, soil parameter determinations and nuclear density testing. Perform nuclear densometer field tests.
09.98 - 01.99 Contract geologist
The work location was the Greens Creek Mine in Alaska. A new portion of the ore body was to be explored by an intensified temporary underground drilling program. Work activities included logging of NQ core, MAXIBOR surveying of diamond drill holes, creation of X-sections based on logging observations, and database compilation for INGRESS and DATAMINE applications.
07.98 - 08.98 Consulting geologist
Duties consisted of an evaluation of a property in respect to possible diamond occurrences. Soil and stream samples were collected and analyzed for Diamond indicator minerals. Clay, likely derived from a kimberlitic source, yielded a number of chromites (high magnesium and chromium) known to be stable under diamond forming conditions. Potential exploration targets were generated and a follow-up program was outlined. The first diamond ever found in Alaska was collected on this property as reported on July 8, 2002.
08.96 - 04.98 Project exploration geologist
1997 Project geologist for exploration programs targeting base and precious metals on previously established mid stage projects (trench sampling and mapping) in eastern Alaska (Veta prospects in the Yukon-Tanana Upland) and in the copper belt of the Brooks Range (Wiseman). Additional early stage projects were initiated and consisted of soil grid sampling and geo traversing in Central Alaska (Tanana). Geologic settings of the exploration targets included massive sulfides, skarns and fault related mineralization.
1996 As the project geologist, I was responsible for the legal and geologic evaluation of potential claim staking targets in western Alaska (near Flat). Of about 20 investigated sites more than half were staked with a total claim surface of about 50 square miles. The geologic setting was mostly hornfelsed sediments in contact with igneous rocks of generally granitic composition. My duties included soil sampling, stream sediment sampling, and geologic traversing with the collection of geochemical samples and hand specimens.
The staking crew (staking targets subsequent to my prior field investigation), consisted of up to 12 claim stakers and one geologist. The area covered was about a third of a 1:250,000 Quadrangle. An additional staking phase restarted in the winter. This effort connected two previously staked larger claim blocks adjacent to Placer Domes Donlin Creek property.
04.95 - 06.96 Department head/senior geologist
Duties consisted of acquisition, project management and coordination of hazard evaluation programs in connection with soil contamination remediation activities. Projects were located predominantly on industrial or municipal properties, to a lesser extent on military real estate. Projects were equivalent to the US Phase I, II and III terminology. Larger clients were Esso and Shell.
After 09.95 Responsibilities increased to maintaining the profitability of the cost center (office) and included accounting, budgeting and bidding as well as personnel and equipment planning. Supervised three project geologists and one field crew.
08.92 - 03.95 Engineering/Environmental Geologist
08.92 - 09.94 Supervisor of the department of geology, material science and damage analysis (GMD). Planning and conductiong of all phases of hazardous indoor materials handling.
09.94 - 03.95 In addition to activities mentioned above, duties consisted of supervising the geological laboratory (XRD, SEM), and acting as a supervising consultant in a soil exchange program. (Budget of about $6 Million).
10.88 - 02.92
05.91 - 02.92 Senior geologist of the extended exploration drilling program and the development drilling program (total of 25,000'/ month) Planning of the drill program, its holes, staffing, financing, permitting, and environmental impact. Responsible for timely realization of the drilling program and for professional interpretation of the drill data. Supervisor of six geologists, three geo-technicians, two Greens Creek drill crews and five sub-contractor drill crews.
10.90 - 04.91 Geologist of the drilling program (3300'/ month) Extensive core logging and development of X-sections of the ore body for mine planning.
10.88 - 09.90 Grade control geologist/Mining geologist responsible for the quality control in a strongly deformed Massive Sulfide Deposit. Steering of the production face to warrant the highest ore grade. Underground sampling and mapping of the ore body. On-site evaluation of production drifts. Photographing of faces sampled. Entering face data into AutoCAD and digitizing photographic information. Working closely with the mining department and the laboratory. Scheduling the sequence of face visits with shifters.
06.88 - 10.88 Exploration geologist
Regional Juneau Gold Belt reconnaissance study in southeast Alaska with special emphasis on "gold mineralization in epithermal vein deposits". Collection of soil samples, steam sediments, pan concentrates as well as ore and bedrock samples of abandoned mines in the area.
08.82 - 05.84 Research assistant with the Mineral Industry Research Laboratory's (MIRL) Interior Project
Fieldwork consisted of reconnaissance exploration of the entire Circle Mining District. The region comprises an area of 600 square miles. Investigation methods included general mapping with advanced rock unit descriptions, stream sediment, rock and soil sampling. Specific emphasis was given to structural parameters in an attempt to understand the tectonic history of the district. Laboratory work included the pulping of rock samples for chemical analysis and the preparation of thin and polish sections.
