Consulting metallurgical engineer with emphasis on plant process design criteria and flow diagrams, new plant commissioning and operating plant improvement and/or troubleshooting.

1995 - 1999 KILBORN ENGINEERS (SNC-LAVALIN INT. INC.)

•    Vice President and General Manager –SNC- Lavalin Australia

Responsible for start-up of this new engineering office located in Perth, Western Australia. Responsible for all daily office operations including profit and loss responsibility, contract negotiations, business development and project controls.

Co-oridinated the onsite efforts of the 10 member commissioning team assigned to start the Bulong nickel and cobalt Pressure Acid Leach project owned by Resolute Resources. Relieved the commissioning manager during his absences and performed troubleshooting of the autoclave portion of the operation.

Supervised the preparation of and provided metallurgical input into three major pressure acid leach bankable feasibility studies:

•    Anaconda Nickel’s Mt. Margaret cobalt nickel project
•    Black Range’s New South Wales cobalt nickel project
•    Anaconda Nickel’s phase II expansion of the Murrin Murrin project

Managed the EPCM contract with Anaconda Nickel to retrofit their current Murrin Murrin pressure acid leach autoclave plant with top entry flash vessels.

Completed a pressure acid leach pre-feasibility study for Moneo Metals for their nickel laterite deposit in New Caledonia.

•    Manager of Metallurgy for Kilborn International

Responsible for directing all metallurgical design activities, assigning the appropriate metallurgical specialists to each project, and assuring the process design is correct, efficient, operationally sound, and cost effective in terms of the overall plant design.

1993-1995 HUDSON BAY MINING & SMELTING CO LTD

•    Manager of Metallurgical Operations

Responsible for all direct management functions of:

A 108,000 tons copper anode per year copper smelter
A 104,000 tons zinc metal per year zinc pressure leach, electrowinning and casting operation
Analytical and Research and development laboratories

The position reported to the President and included profit and loss responsibility as well as supervision of approximately 600 employees and an annual operating budget of 100 million dollars

1985-1993     INSPIRATION RESOURCES COMPANY

•    General Manager-Yuba Placer Gold Company 1989-1993

Responsible for all management functions, including Profit and Loss, of a 20,000 ton per day gold placer dredging operation in Marysville, California.

•    Manager of Corporate Metallurgical Services 1988-1989

Provided technical services and plant troubleshooting to all U.S. and Canadian Operations. Directed the due diligence teams studying the acquisition of over 50 gold operations. Performed metallurgical flowsheet development and estimated plant capital and operating costs to assist the exploration teams in North America.

•    General Manager-Austin Gold Venture 1985-1988

Directed the development of this greenfield gold mine from the second stage drilling program through design, construction and commissioning. Performed all metallurgical testwork on the refractory ore and designed the plant flowsheet. Worked closely with all regulatory agencies and managed the mining and processing operation after start-up for 2 years.

1976-1985    INSPIRATION CONSOLIDATED COPPER COMPANY

•    Director of Process Engineering 1981-1985

Managed a multi-disciplined engineering group involved with the timely completion of a wide variety of projects in all areas of the plant operations from mining to the annual production of 178 million pounds of copper wirebar.

•    Concentrator Superintendent 1979 - 1981

Managed a 20,000 tpd copper concentrator. Developed a modernisation program that ultimately resulted in a 15% increase in copper recovery, a nine percent increase in daily tonnage and a decrease in unit costs of over 10%.

•    Smelter Operations 1977-1979

Held various positions in the smelting including Smelter Control Metallurgist, Control Superintendent responsible for the electric furnace operations and Pyrometallurgical Superintendent responsible for converter anode casting and acid plant operations.

•    Mill Metallurgist 1973 – 1979

Performed various metallurgical duties at Inspirations Christmas mill and the Kennecott Copper mill in Hayden,Arizona.

SELECTED ACHIEVMENTS

Designed, developed and managed a concentrator modernization program that resulted in over 50 million dollars of improvement to the company’s profitability.

Managed the development of a grassroots gold mine from the drilling stage through to gold production less than 18 months later.

Managed a cost reduction/production increase program at a gold operation that resulted in a 10 million dollar increase in the company’s annualized profits.

Managed the start-up of the world’s first two-stage zinc pressure leach plant and made several changes to plant operations which contributed to an increase of 40 million dollars in the cashflow from operations.

Managed the start-up of a new engineering office in Perth, Australia. Increased the company’s bottom-line profits and grew from 6 people to 66 people in less than 12 months.

Implemented a company wide cost savings effort that resulted in a reduction in the cost per pound of copper produced of 10 cents, from 65 cents per pound to 55 cents per pound.
