PERSONAL OVERVIEW
In twelve years I have accumulated a wide range of experiences in the mining environment. I have been directly responsible for the implementation of safety and training systems from entry to managerial levels of the industry. I have a strong belief that application of proven processes and sound analytical procedures provides the foundation for the development of ethical advice in a manner, which will ensure sustainable customer retention and loyalty. I have made significant contributions, via National and State Mining Industry Advisory Boards, to the development of Metalliferous and Coal Competency Standards and coal and metalliferous Project Steering Committees. I am well known to both these key Mining Industry bodies. In recent years I have developed, implemented and managed a Cross Industry Standardisation Projects within several mining organisations and played a pivotal roles in the design, development and roll out of safety and training management systems across these organisations. I would be acknowledged by many of my peers as being at the forefront, both in knowledge and practical expertise, in the design and implementation of both competency based training systems, Australian Qualification Training Framework Compliance and Safety Management Systems.
I have completed a Diploma of Front Line Management and currently completing a Graduate Diploma of Occupational Health and Safety. I have performed demanding safety / training and development appointments, and have no difficulty completing tasks at any level.

EMPLOYMENT HISTORY

Present Xstrata Coal - NCA Project. Newlands Coal

Position: Safety Superintendent - Surface Operations
Newlands Coal currently employs over 600 personnel including contractors across the operation. Newlands Coal runs a truck shovel fleet that supports three draglines producing approximately 5 million tonnes of coking and steaming coal to the international market place.
Responsibilities
* Facilitation of site based risk assessment for NCA and Contactor personnel.
* Develop and maintain the Site Hazard Management plans, Safety Management Plans, Hazard Registers for both the NCA and Contractors.
* Conduct Fault Tree Analysis.
* Facilitate Formal Risk Assessments.
* Manage the Surface Emergency Response Team.
* Review Newlands Coal Safety Management System to ensure compliance.
* Procedure and Risk Assessment development and reviews.
* Develop contractor management plan / safety system.
* Map SOP`s across Assessment Tools.
* Provide direction and leadership in the development, Design and roll out site based competency based training systems.
* Conduct assessment development workshop for site based trainers and assessors.
* Design and implement management development initiatives that link to AQF levels.
* Ensure all Quality Assurance requirements are adhered to within the safety / training structure.
* Conduct Incident/ accident Investigations for the Surface Operations.

* Design and develop site based auditing system inline with industry standards.

2001- March 2003 - Henry Walker Eltin Contracting Pty Ltd
Position: East Coast / International Training Superintendent
Henry Walker Eltin ranks as one of the largest mining contractors in the world. The mining order book is concentrated on work for major mining companies, spread across a range of mineral commodities including gold, iron ore, coal, bauxite, nickel, copper and zinc. HWE is one of Australia's larger civil and engineering contractors employing approximately 3800 personnel collectively. With a presence in most mainland states, our civil business is active in the transport, public works, mining, and property development and defence sectors.
Responsibilities:
* Design and construct training and assessment material across the group
* Design and implement management development initiatives that link to AQF levels
* Maintain acute awareness of current and future industry trends and best practice in training and development and use this information to guide initiatives
* Build and maintain alliances and relationships with contractors/consultants, industry players, and statutory authorities to provide leverage for HWE
* Provide leadership to the global training teams on site across HWE in terms of task and resource allocation, performance management (including coaching), employee development, and reward.
* Ensuring that out training system provides HWE with a competitive edge in terms of delivery, cost and business effectiveness outcomes
* Ensuring that the training system is able to meet the cost, quality and timelines expectations of our customers
* Ensure all Quality Assurance requirements are adhered to within the training structure
* Ensure all activities undertaken by employees and subcontractors are carried out in accordance with the company Active Safe Policy and Procedures. Active promotion of safe work practices.
Achievements:
* Development and design of over 2000 training and assessment documents mapped to the National Standards
* Roll out of competency based training (National Training Packages) across all HWE mining operations
* Implemented a standardisation within the HWE training system
* Issued over 5000 qualifications to HWE employees
* Developed training manuals for processing plants, hyperlinked to site procedures and assessment tools, mapped to the National Standards
* Developed and implemented site training procedures, including process flow chart, first competent person, linked to site safety procedures
* Re-written National Standards to better suit the industry through the National ITAB
* Conducted cross cultural training for Roche/Eltin project, Century Pasminco Mine Site

1999 - 2001 - Henry Walker Eltin Contracting Pty Ltd
Position: East Coast & New Zealand Safety / Safety - Training Coordinator

Responsibilities:

* Partner with sites/projects to implement the processes and procedures that relate to task based competency development
* Work collaboratively and jointly with the training department, project managers, and site based training coordinators in the resolution of training issues and the satisfaction of specific training needs (at times this may involve conducting training as a remedial action)
* Assist new projects in the development of site specific training procedures and documents (including competency standards, assessment criteria, and lesson plans) that are consistent with the HWE training system
* Maintain site safety statistics
* Facilitate formal risk assessments for operations as required.
* Conduct Detailed Incident and Accident Investigations.
* Compile Monthly reports on Safety and Training.
* Provide Safety Data Base Training to all Coordinators.
* Provide safety support to all Eastern region sites as required
* Design and construct site specific induction programs for new projects
* Coordinate the training of workplace assessors ensuring each project has sufficient resources
* Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of the new directions in training, training legislation and licensing requirements
* Utilising an established process, provide input into the development of tender proposals on the training issues and plans
* Act as company representative to the Industry Training Advisory Board
* Audit projects against the requirements of the training system ands work with teams to achieve compliance
* Assist new projects with the implementation of Aboriginal Employment Strategy (e.g.: start up training addressing specific training needs)
Achievements:
* Development of assessment tools mapped across states and mining industries ( 12 Month project completed and ongoing due to industry changes)
* Development of generic assessment tools, including customisation guidelines and manuals that can be accessed by all sites through the HWE Intranet.
* Developed and implemented a training and audit system that aligns HWE with the ATQF and RTO requirements
* Provided a transparent, robust and flexible approach to competency based training that embeds the processes throughout the HWE mining operations so that individual site become more self sufficient
* Developed a assessors guide to assessment, including process flow charts, generic training plans for site and individual, and generic site training procedure with customisation guide
* Reviewed and overhauled the training and assessment for the REJV Century project - 3 month project
* Gained $100,000 of funding for Southern and Ebenezer collieries for competency based training and the issuing of qualifications
* Consolidated all HWE procedures and risk assessments and mapped against the regulatory requirements to ensure compliance (8 Month Project).
