I have been a Firefighter since 1990 and am considered to be a keen and effective senior member of the Defence Fire and Rescue Service. I am a mature, self-motivated and well-organised person who enjoys a challenge. I offer reliability, punctuality and commitment.
I am always willing to learn new skills and remain open minded to considering new ways of working in order to become a more efficient manager.

EXPERIENCE

March 2007 - Date MOD Fire Services Central Training Establishment Manston, Kent
* Senior Instructor
Resposible for instructor allocation and management, course development, revision and delivery which includes all courses from Basic Fire Fighter to Advanced Fire Safety at Station Manager level. The management of fire ground support and the training resources, overseeing all instructors duties, taking part in training review boards and compiling all paperwork with regards to Health and Safety and Accident Investigation. Carrying out annual staff reports for all staff under my responsibility, at present time 20 instructors and fire ground support staff. Attending seminars and courses relevant to my position. Delivering outreach courses to various areas of the country and overseas.

2004 - 2007 DF&RS Dhekelia/Ayios Nikolaos
* Station Officer: Fire Station Commander in charge of two busy fire stations that are separated by more than twenty miles. I managed and had supervisory responsibility for 44 Locally Employed Civilian Firefighters from both the Greek and Turkish Cypriot community, including the writing of Performance Appraisal Reports on an annual basis. The operational responsibilities I had were for Dhekelia Garrison, Ayios Nikolaos Station, 150 Km2 of Sovereign Base Area; mostly farm land, 9 villages, Dhekelia Power Station (which supplies more than 50% of the electricity for Cyprus), 2 x desalination plants, various differing industrial premises (pet food factory, cement factory etc.), ship firefighting for vessels within a 3 mile offshore limit (including the fuel tankers which are used to replenish the power station), cross border relations between the Republic of Cyprus and the Turkish controlled North Cyprus ( including being the First-In-Attendance to a village across the border). There is an agreement of mutual assistance with the Republic of Cyprus Fire Service in which we can be called to support them, in particular as second attendance to Aiya Napa, Larnaka, Protarus and Paralimni.

I was responsible for conducting Fire Safety Inspections and compiling reports in line with MOD policy and providing Basic Fire Awareness training to all MOD employees and contractors within the Eastern Sovereign Base Area, British retained site at Nicosia and the British High Commission. I was responsible for the identification of risks and remedial action taken at the United Nations British contingent in Nicosia in particular writing and delivering the enhanced training given to the military with regards to wildland firefighting. I also was involved with the identification and supply of additional operational equipment (confined space rescue equipment, chemical decontamination equipment as well as replacement firefighting equipment.). I was responsible for initiating and completing Fire Investigations and producing the relevant reports.

2001 -2004 DF&RS Wattisham Airfield
* Station Officer: After successful promotion on the board held in Oct 2000 at Pinesgate, Bath. I was promoted and transferred to Wattisham Airfield, Suffolk as Fire Station Commander. I had management and supervisory responsibility for 32 Firefighters. I was responsible for ensuring that crash fire cover was maintained at the correct level for both rotary wing aircraft (Gazelle, Lynx, Chinook and Apache) and fixed wing aircraft (C130 Hercules and C17 Star lifter). I also managed the overseas operational detachments for the fire station, which saw at one time, a third of the station on operational deployment without depleting the crash fire cover for the airfield. I was involved in monitoring the fire safety with special regard to the large amount of building work being carried out at the Airfield and completing fire safety inspections and reports in line with MOD policy. I was also responsible for initiating and completing Fire Investigations and producing the relevant reports.

Nov 2002 - May 2003 SFOR Bosnia
* Station Officer: I was posted unaccompanied on an Operational Detachment as SO3 Fire Services for the Stabilisation Force (SFOR) in Bosnia, I had full operational and functional control of two fire stations employing 38 Locally Employed Civilians from all ethnic groups within the country and 6 UK based Junior Officers. I was in control of the transition from UK Firefighters to Local Firefighters and ensuring that on station fire training was conducted to the required standards. I was also responsible for initiating and completing Fire Investigations and producing the relevant reports. I completed Fire Safety Inspections and reports in line with MOD policy on existing and new buildings requiring to be brought up to MOD standards.

1992-2001 DF&RS HMNB Clyde Faslane
* Leading Firefighter: I worked at Her Majesty's Naval Base (HMNB) Clyde Faslane as deputy watch commander and I was directly responsible for 6 MOD fire fighters on shift, providing support and training for promotion and qualification courses. Duties included Breathing Apparatus maintenance schedules and stores, manning rosters, daily work assignments, training schedules, pay cards, leave and overtime authorisation, crew commander responsibilities for crew and vehicle. I performed duties as OIC at on-base incidents, which potentially could have included nuclear submarine fires. T & G Sub Officer for 12 months. I Performed Station Officer duties in absence of Stn Officer, spearheaded many projects to improve the working environment. I was also responsible for the maintenance of 12 CABA sets and servicing program.

1990-1992 DF&RS HMNB Clyde Faslane
* Fire fighter: As a member of a crew, performed many LFF duties such as training schedules, responsible for station library sorting MOD forms and publications. Acted as leading fire fighter for 12 months.

1988-1990 Nicholson Preservation
* Joiner/carpenter: An experienced Joiner/carpenter working in all areas of the trade but mainly refurbishment. As well as Joinery work, I was responsible for the measuring and ordering of materials and estimating the price of jobs.

1984-1988 JW Arroll Joiners, Glazers and Cabinetmakers
* Apprentice Joiner/Glazer /Cabinetmaker: I served a 4 year apprenticeship learning and becoming proficient in all areas of Joinery/Glazing & Cabinet making.

1983-1984 Singer Regional Service Centre
* Apprentice Sewing Machine Engineer: I served 1 year of my apprenticeship as a sewing machine engineer before transferring to the Joinery trade..

1982-1983 Scottish Gas
* Trainee: I completed a one-year training course in the general building trades. The New Training Initiative System course which I was enrolled on was a pilot course for the Youth Training System (YTS)
