Held a series of increasingly more responsible jobs in a phosphate fertilizer complex that made MAP dry fertilizer and super phosphoric acid. Last job was overall responsibility for the operation of a 10,000-tpd phosphate mine in Vernal, Utah, and a 400,000-tpy P2O5 fertilizer production facility in Rock Springs, Wyoming.

•    Oversaw a 25% increase in production through a $34 million expansion, which decreased unit costs and made SF the lowest cost producer of phosphoric acid in the United States.
•    Initiated a safety program that resulted in an 80% reduction in OSHA recordable incidents between FY 2000 and FY2001.
•    Initiated the conversion of the Rock Springs’ management system from team base to a more traditional program with employee involvement. This new structure will ultimately improve employee training and result in more accountability in achieving safety, environmental and production goals.

•    Provided process and engineering expertise to American Gilsonite in the development of a process to extract a resin from gilsonite. Supervised laboratory test program to develop process design data and a pilot operation through a toll mill in Alabama. Completed design and layout of a pilot plant. Company eventually built a full-size plant based on this work.

Mine Superintendent - Vernal, UT (1987-1988)

•    Supervised the operation and maintenance of 10,000-tpd open pit phosphate mine.

Mill Superintendent - Vernal, UT (1981-1987)

•    Responsible for the operating, maintenance and technical staffs in the design and start-up of two mill expansions--3,600 to 7,200 tpd in 1984 and 7,200 to 10,000 tpd in 1986.

•    Supervised the start-up and operation of a 94-mile long slurry pipeline from Vernal to Rock Springs, Wyoming.

Environmental Control Engineer - Salt Lake City, UT (1975-1980)

•    Provided solutions to air, water and solid waste problems for the 6 phosphate plants in Stauffer’s fertilizer division. Also responsible for industrial hygiene work.

Kennecott Copper Corp. - Salt Lake City, UT    1967-1975

•    Worked in the concentrator and smelter and promoted to the Research and Engineering Center. Specialized in solvent extraction projects for copper, molybdenum and rhenium. Also worked on several copper related environmental projects.
