GPA: 4.0; Graduation Date: July 2001
COURSE PROJECTS
Finite element analysis to evaluate the stress at a hole located at the center of a sheet of steel.
Different types of elements were used to find the effect of elements in running the simulations.
Different mesh sizes ranging from coarse to fine were used to study the convergence of the results.
Different load and geometric configurations were applied to evaluate the stress at the hole using a quarter model.
X-Ray methods to identify an Unknown rock sample.
A sample of unknown material is prepared to determine its composition
Initial trials were carried out to adjust the brags angle.
The testing is carried out at a constant speed to obtain the different peaks corresponding to different elements present in the sample
X-ray handbooks were used to find the material type from the X-ray peak data.
Finite element analysis on Co-Extrusion
FEM simulations were carried out the test the accuracy in predicting the bonding behavior in co- extrusion and Simulations were carried out using DEFORM-2D
Different ratios of the yield strengths of core and clad materials at different diameters are evaluated.
The simulated results were compared to that of the results published in literature.
Routines to obtain grain size, size distributions and volume fractions.
Routines were developed to obtain the ASTM grain size using OMNIMET image analyzer.
A routine to find the volume fraction of different phases present in a sample is developed.
A routine to determine the precipitate size, shape, Distribution and the mean intercept length is developed.
Numerical methods in solving differential equations.
Jacobi and Gauss Seidel method were used to solve differential equations in a boundary value problem.
Methods were used to minimize the error in solving the differential equations.
Statistical methods for linear models using SAS (Statistical Analysis Software)
Linear models for the given data were developed and the model assumptions were checked.
Higher order models were also attempted to obtain a better fit for the given data and the model assumptions were checked again.
