I am a South-African electro-mechanical design & project engineer with 8 years work experience. I have a wide variety of design & project experience, mainly within automation & control. Most of this experience is in special purpose machinery and production lines, mostly within the automotive and food industries.

I Have spent the last few years doing contract work in between travel. As a result I have been involved in various projects in differing industries in South Africa and the UK, including some major international projects (Germany, Turkey, Belgium).

I will be moving permanently to Brisbane in late February / early March 2008 (I am marrying an aussie!!). I am now looking for an interesting & challenging project position, preferably with emphasis on the automation & control aspect.

- Management of electro-mechanical design, manufacture & installation projects.
- Working as part of engineering teams, including supervision of artisans.
- Working with international customers and suppliers in local & international locations.
- Mechanical & electrical system detail design.
- PLC, variable speed drives and electrical switchgear installation & commissioning.
(Allen Bradley, Siemens, Omron, Keyence & Festo PLC programming experience)
- Pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
- Requirements for CE marking of equipment: safety systems on machinery.
- CAD drafting on Autocad (R14, 2000, Lite) & Paracad.

WORK EXPERIENCE

1) May 2006 – Feb 2007: DESIGN & PROJECT ENGINEER
KMG Systems Limited, Gamlingay, UK [contract]
Worked within design offices and at national and international sites for this crisp production line manufacturer. I assisted project managers on large projects. My responsibilities included:
* Mechanical & electrical integration of projects during pre-build.
* Sub-contractor scope, selection & supervision
* Design & installation of all services: electrical, air, nitrogen.
* In-house production & assembly troubleshooting, including some detailed design.
* Detailed planning & scheduling of pre-build, finishing, transport & installation.
* Despatch of all equipment to national & international customers.
* Supervision of UK & international site installation including supervision of UK & foreign installation teams.
* Mechanical & electrical troubleshooting & commissioning.

(May 2003 – Apr 2006: INDEPENDENT TRAVEL & TRAVEL WORK)
- 1 year Independent travel through UK, Europe & Central Asia
- 2 years work as overland driver & tour guide for Kumuka Worldwide (London)

2) Feb 2002 – Apr 2003: DESIGN & PROJECT ENGINEER
Startrite Designs Limited, Gillingham, Kent [contract]
I worked in the design office of this special purpose machinery manufacturer.
My responsibilities included:
* Involvement in overall design of new equipment
* Design of control system, including adherence to safety requirements
* Supervision of construction/installation of these systems
* Commissioning equipment within our workshops, including programming of PLC, variable speed drives & HMI
* Install & start-up equipment on customer's site
* Maintenance, upgrading & modification of existing equipment.
* Work professionally with customers at all times

3) Aug 2001 – Jan 2002: ELECTRO-MECHANICAL ENGINEER
Efco Limited, Weybridge, Surrey [contract]
Worked within electrical & mechanical design departments of this glass furnace manufacturer.
My responsibilities were to:
* Specify complete wiring runs, including trunking, conduit & junction boxes on new machinery and create wiring schedules from electrical schemes.
* Modify and create electrical schemes and prepare routing layouts for machines on AutoCAD.
* Integration of mechanical and electrical systems
* Mechanical part design, and problem solving, in office and on site.
* Project engineering the prototype furnace, to ensure on-time completion and despatch.

4) Jan 1996 - Feb 2001: DESIGN & PROJECT ENGINEER
Behr Engine Cooling – Pretoria, South Africa [permanent]
The projects department at Behr was responsible for cost saving, and increased throughput in production through automation projects. In the 5 years I worked at this radiator manufacturer, I was responsible for all stages of projects:
* Projects identification, justification, budgeting and planning.
* Conceptual and detailed design of new machinery/jigging including all pneumatic and electric control systems. This included creating working drawings on ACAD R14 / 2000
* All stages of manufacture - material ordering, outsourced work and supervision of 3-4 full time artisans.
* Final assembly & commissioning (incl PLC programming) and pre-production supervision.
