Employment / Work Experience
Consolidated Minerals Ltd: Exploration Geologist, Perth, Australia. (Aug 2007 – Feb 2008)
- Logging drill hole samples drilled daily by RC rigs.
- Creating and developing drill proposals, interpreting contractual geophysical work, geological mapping, budgeting drilling costs and reviewing/analysing drilling results.
- Database management and assay analysis.
- Occasional field assistant duties, including pegging props with DGPS and sampling.
- Competent at GIS/modelling programmes; MapInfo (intermediate) and Micromine (basic).
- My role includes acting as the Driving Safety Initiative Officer for the Exploration department, conducting morning daily safety meetings and attending production meetings when acting as the 'On Duty Geologist'.
- FIFO of Perth/Pilbara roster; experience of living remotely (Pilbara region) on a minesite in extreme conditions.

Dominion Housing Group: General Assistant (4 weeks paid, Sept 2006)
- Responsibilities included filing, administration, building tours, decorating and general maintenance. My interpersonal and improvisation skills were greatly improved through the building tours and the varied, often independent workload enabled me to experience prioritizing important tasks.
Stallard and Co., Worcester: Junior Office Assistant (6 weeks paid, Aug/Sept 2004)
- Tasks included archiving files, confidential file destruction, postal duties, creating databases and inputting data on case-management systems. Useful experience gained with working in an office environment and with meeting deadlines.
Independent work abroad in a bar-tabac in Dijon, France (1 week, July 2002)
- Work experience in a convenience store and café. Experience was gained at working in demanding conditions in a hectic business whilst speaking another language.
Tesco supermarket chain, Ledbury Bakery: employee (paid, 2002-2004)
- As well as being employed in the bakery, I was trained on the tills and in the café.
Mellbreak Restaurant, Malvern (paid employment, 2000-2003)
- Responsibilities included waiting, bar work and food preparation.
Interests / Additional Information
- Academic achievements include receiving a commendation from the head of the University of Bristol Earth Sciences department for my performance in the 2nd year (2006). I received 'Contribution to School Life' and 'A-level performance' awards at the end of sixth form (2003).
- I was involved in many societies at university:
- Final year: I took part in a 'parenting' scheme with the geology society, where I helped a group of first years settle into university and provided support during their first year.
- I wrote music reviews for the student radio.
- I raised money for local charities via RAG, including a sponsored hitchhike.
- I also helped run the Bristol 2005 Fresher's Fair, which included working on the information desk, organising stalls and general management.
- In sixth form I was Head Boy and a member of the sixth form council. Tasks included organizing school and local events and frequent public speaking. I also chaired an organization called CHIPS (Childline In Partnership with Schools), which created a 'listening service' for younger students in the school, for which we won the Princess Diana Memorial Award in 2002.
- I travelled alone to New Zealand and Kuala Lumpur from May-Aug 2004. I have also visited the United States, Canada and many European countries, including Greece and Cyprus recently during field trips as part of my degree. Travelling has made me appreciate other cultures and respect different ways of life.
- I practice sports frequently, particularly swimming, tennis and golf and I have a gym membership. I also partake in many extreme sports and enjoy hiking and the outdoors.
- I have a full and clean UK and WA driving licence.
- I am competent in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and (basic) Access) and familiar with Mac programmes.
