As a Senior Consultant:
Worked as a Senior Consultant from 1 January 2002 to 14 December at Geo Information Systems & Technologists (GIST), Hyderabad, India recognized by the Department of Space, Govt. of India. Work involves geological mapping, structure delineation, geomorphologic mapping and hydrological data collection in the field with the aid of satellite data. The data collected was used in the preparation of Groundwater Target Zone Mapping. By virtue of their multiplicity these maps can be used for different applications for sustainable development. Conversion of the spatial geo-technical data to digital form using software like ERDAS and Arc\Info. Other works include geo-environmental surveys and civil foundation studies.
As a Research Fellow:
Worked as a Research Fellow in Geology at the National Remote Sensing Agency, Department of Space, Government of India since August 1999 till December 2001 under the Rajiv Gandhi National Drinking Water Mission's project. The work involves preparation of Groundwater Prospects Maps on 1:50000 scale for different states of India with the aid of IRS 1C/D LISS III FCC data interpretation and GIS. The software being used are ARC\INFO 7.2.1 and ERDAS 8.3 & 8.4.The project involves visual interpretation of satellite imagery/remotely sensed data for delineation of geology, geomorphology, structures, hydrology of the terrain and ground truth and finally generation of the integrated map along with digital database using GIS software. Carried out extensive field trips for collection of ground truth data in different states of India. Quality checking of similar maps (hard & soft copies) prepared by different affiliated entrepreneur organizations.
Pilot Projects Undertaken:
#GUJARAT GOVERNMENT PROJECT:
This project involves identification of areas impacted by limestone mining of Narayan Sarovar Sanctuary Area of Gujarat, India and its environs using Indian Remote sensing Satellite (IRS) 1D LISS III data. Image processing has been carried out by using ERDAS 8.4 software. This area is endowed with wide variety of birds and every year receives diversified foreign species. In addition this area is also well known for good deposits of limestone and improper mining of the mineral is spoiling the environment of the sanctuary. Digital interpretation of the satellite imagery has been carried out to locate areas of excessive mining activity and the area of influence has been found so as to assess the environmental impact.
#Andhra Pradesh GOVERNMENT PROJECT: Worked for this project which involves identification of water bodies for domestic utilization of water for the Twin cities (Hyderabad & Secunderabad) with the aid of satellite data and ARC/INFO 7.2.1 and GIS along with field checks. Carried out preparation of preliminary maps of the urban area and surroundings for selection of potential water bodies, which can be sources for water supply to the city.
As a Lecturer:
Worked as a lecturer on contract basis in Geology at the Post-Graduate Center, Kothagudem (affiliated to Kakatiya University, Warangal) for 2 years (1995-1997). During this University level teaching, taught subjects viz., Economic Geology, Mineral Exploration, Mineralogy, Environmental Geology, Stratigraphy, Sedimentology, Palaeontology, Structural Geology to M.Sc.(Geology) and Basic Geology, Economic and Mining Geology, Engineering Geology, Ore-genesis, Structural Geology to B.E.(Mining) curricula. Conducted Geological Field Trips and Mapping Programmes for M.Sc. students in addition to teaching.
In addition to the above I also worked as an artist/illustrator and co-author for one year (1994-1995) for Geology Text books of Bachelor level course under Telugu Academy, Government of Andhra Pradesh, India.
M.Tech. THESIS:
TITLE: ''Deep-water oxygenation and organic carbon flux during Miocene: Faunal and Geochemical Studies of sediments from an off-shore ONGC well, Krishna - Godavari Basin"
Twenty-seven core samples, from an ONGC well in the offshore Krishna-Godavari Basin, were analyzed for foraminiferal and pteropod fauna and geochemistry (Organic Carbon, Total Organic Matter and Phosphorous). An attempt has been made to reconstruct the palaeoenvironment of the studied well site. The presence of a planktic foraminifer, Globegerinella aequilateralis suggests a late middle to late Miocene age to these sediments. Planktic foraminifera and pteropods indicate a tropical to temperate climate. Phosphorous has a similar trend with organic carbon and both seem to be associated with each other. The less abundance and pyritized nature of the faunal representatives in addition to high organic carbon values (0.9-2.9%) suggest anoxic conditions and plausible source rock for hydrocarbon accumulation.
