Certified with 40 hours OSHA /HasMat training.
EMPLOYMENT & CONTRACT WORK
06/2007 to Present: As a geologist for Surbec Environmental, I performed field operations that included drilling supervision, soil and water sampling, slug and injection tests, and office work that included isopach/contour mapping of contaminant plumes with cross sections, ground water gradient maps and calculated 'K' values (hydraulic conductivity) for the contaminated aquifers on UST remediation sites. Presented isopach maps w/ cross sections and ground water gradient maps to State officials for approval of proposed remediation projects.
01/2006 to 03/2007: Mud Engineer with Halliburton/Baroid, Drilling Fluids Division. Experience includes drilling fluid services (drive-by and 24 hour service) for a variety of operators using large to small drilling rigs on vertical and horizontal oil and gas exploration wells drilled in Oklahoma, Arkansas and Texas. I developed a method of use for standard water base drilling fluid chemicals that created a tougher wall cake that helped prevent frequent lost circulation episodes in horizontal wells drilled in the Hunton Formation northwest of Enid, OK.
08 to 12/2005: Adjunct Professor of General Chemistry at Redlands Community College and Earth Science at Oklahoma City Community College (fall semester 2005). I also taught night courses in Physical Science (spring semesters 2001, 2002 & 2004) at Redlands Community College and Oklahoma City Community College while contracting and working other jobs and General Chemistry courses with Labs (spring 2003 & fall, full-time 2005) at El Reno.
04 to 07/2005: Sales engineer/geologist for a wireline service company. I made sales calls to various oil field operators in Oklahoma for open hole logging services. Duties included helping rig up/down and monitoring open hole logging operations in Oklahoma and Texas that included dual induction, gamma/gamma, density and porosity logs. Evaluated open hole logs for Sw and created a spreadsheet capable of determining Rw from SP where catalog values for Rw were questionable and/or non-existant.
02 to 07/2004: Technical director for an industrial/oil field chemical plant. I helped develop new chemicals for oil and gas well stimulation, CO2 and H2S gas removal at the wellhead, and iron chelating compounds. Devised a spreadsheet for chemical blends based on weight rather than volume that significantly improved the accuracy of large volume blends in the plant. Negotiated a contract for an uninterrupted supply of raw material crucial to a product that ensured the company's ability to meet increasing demand for that product. Recommended physical improvements and implemented standard safety procedures and that made the plant a safer, healthier place to work.
08/2003 to 02/2004: Mud logger on oil & gas exploration drilling rigs in Oklahoma (Anadarko Basin) and Texas (Permian & Ft. Worth Basins). Duties included those typically required of mud loggers that is; helped rig up/down and maintain equipment; collect, prepare, test and describe drilled cutting samples; monitor and document gas shows; prepare and present mud logs in a daily report to operator/company representatives.
02/2002 – 04/2003: Estimator/geologist for a foundation drilling company; I used geotechnical data to produce 3-dimensional images of the subsurface that greatly aided in estimating the cost of drilling large diameter piers for commercial construction projects in Oklahoma City and the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. I also designed spreadsheet models for estimating drilling jobs that greatly reduced the time and improved the accuracy of the estimates.
09/2001 to 02/2002: Structural geologic mapping and prospect development: I used drill hole data (mud logs & geophysical logs) to create structural contour and isopach maps using statistical/scientific software that rendered colored maps in 3-D for an independent oil and gas exploration company on leases in south-central Oklahoma that showed areas where drilling would likely be most successful. Water well rehabilitation projects using chemical and mechanical methods on large capacity irrigation wells for Braum's Dairy Farm and municipal water wells for the City of Enid. I designed an innovative chemical treatment based on chemical analyses of ground water that increases the specific capacity of water wells while destroying bacteria and neutralizing pH from prior acid treatment. Performed surface geophysical surveys in ground water exploration using electrical resistivity and SP methods for the Town of Ravia.
01/2000 to 08/2001: Sales Engineer/Project Manager, Layne-Western Company, 1011W. Harry St., Wichita, KS 67213. Duties included marketing and managing projects for a variety of water well services including water well drilling, water well rehabilitation, water treatment systems, pump repair and replacement, environmental and geotechnical drilling and sampling, and ground water exploration geophysical surveys. Experienced in job cost estimation for all of the above and in managing projects from beginning to end. Within the first 6 months as a sales engineer, I developed a single water well rehabilitation job for a small town in western Oklahoma into a $75,000 project that significantly improved the production of an entire well field and followed that by initiating plans for a proposed $1.3 million dollar nitrate removal system by Layne for that city.
09/1998 to 01/2000: Lovell, WY and Minco, OK. Contract work as a geotechnical engineer on the Greybull River Valley Irrigation Project near Cody, WY. I performed grade control surveys, identified soils, and calculated cut/fill volumes for the excavation of a five mile long irrigation canal. Relocated to Oklahoma and worked as an AutoCAD drafter for a surveyor.
05/1995 to 07/1998: Mine Engineer, Bentonite Corporation, Lovell, WY. I was responsible for mining operations at the Lovell plant from June 1995 to June 1998. Duties included supervising development drilling projects, designing and surveying new pits and volume calculations for completed pits, ore reserves calculations, and mine reclamation surveys. I worked with the plant manager, quality control/lab manager, and stripping/hauling contractor in coordinating mining activities to meet increasing production demands. The plant quadrupled production from 1995 to 1997 - setting an industry record.
1985-1995: Employment while attending South Dakota School of Mines & Technology:
Returned to South Dakota from Oklahoma in 1984, and attended college at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. The following positions were held during the summer months and part-time while I attended college: Field geologist for Western Mining Corp. (USA), an Australian gold mining company in a joint gold exploration venture with Homestake Mining Company in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Fluid inclusion research on gold bearing quartz veins for Homestake Mining Company using a USGS heating and cooling stage mounted on a petrographic microscope. Geotechnical engineer for a civil engineering firm in Rapid City, SD. Field geologist at the Richmond Hill Gold Mine, a heap leach surface gold mine in the northern Black Hills. Duties included logging cuttings from reverse circulation drilling rigs, geologic mapping and cross sections.
1975-1985: Employment in the construction industry in Rapid City, SD and in the oil fields of Wyoming. Returned to Rapid City, SD upon discharge from active duty in the US Navy and worked as a concrete laborer and form setter for several years. In 1977, I earned a 2 year associates degree in Building Design and Construction from Western Dakota Technical Institute in Sturgis, SD and worked as an architectural draftsman at a lumber yard prior to migrating from South Dakota to Wyoming during the oil boom. In the early 1980's, I was employed as a rig hand for a wire line (oil well logging and perforation) company in Casper Wyoming, and later, as a field representative (landman) specializing in federal leases for Davis Oil Company in the Powder River Basin. Drilling activity declined in Wyoming before it did in Oklahoma and I moved to Oklahoma City where I found seasonal work as a construction laborer followed by temporary employment as a geologic map drafter and technical illustrator prior to relocating back to South Dakota.
1970-1975: Drafted during the Vietnam War, enlisted in the US Navy, trained in basic electricity and electronics as a Firecontrol Technician, served onboard the aircraft carrier USS Independence, volunteered for and served with the Navy's Special Forces (UDT/Seal Team - 21). Honorably discharged.
