The overall responsibility, support and supervision of all nightshift crews, rigs and operations. Establishing and maintaining the highest quality of relationship between the clients and Boart Longyear, staying within the limits of company policy and procedures. Liaise with geologist and client on sight confirming all daily drilling reports are approved and signed off. In addition, complete daily, weekly, monthly reports and send to the office for processing. Inspect all drill sights ensuring that preparation is complete for a smooth transition from job to job. Implementing good house keeping initiatives in respect of environmental policy and local laws and following up that these were adhered to. All onsite repairs to equipment is supervised and carried out correctly with all maintenance programs and repairs coinciding with rig moves where possible. Scheduling supplies and consumables from the warehouse to personnel in the field. Establishing good communication and trust between all involved with the primary objective to achieving the best possible quality result for the client and the company.

My initial business experience was twenty years in the printing/photolithography industry, located in Wellington - New Zealand, where I was contracted to various companies until I went into partnership, forming SpectraScan. This was a successful company employing 18 skilled trades' people, operating 24 hours 7 days a week. As a Company Director, I was responsible for business growth opportunities, sales & marketing, key customer account management, responsible for all major purchases, human resources and industry representation. Key accounts were advertising agencies, corporate and government departments, print brokers ¡V from the high end print market where quality and service, a keen eye for detail and time management was essential.

We relocated our family to Napier for lifestyle change and our children's education. After analysing the region for business opportunities, I opted for a career change and set up my own transportation/logistics company, Tranzlogging (NZ) Ltd, contracting to various companies throughout New Zealand. Predominately in the logging industry, but as opportunities arose, we expanded into general freight, dangerous goods and chemicals, transporting nationwide. As an owner operator, this role was challenging, further broadening my skill base. I gained licenses and qualifications to drive heavy forestry machinery and truck and trailer units. I managed and negotiated contracts from small family owned companies to large multi national businesses. I was responsible for ensuring trucks met New Zealand regulatory transport laws and maintained safe operational conditions at all times.

While in Napier we brought a lifestyle property and I began farming as an interest, forming Kohatu Angus (NZ) Ltd and joined the New Zealand Angus Association as a member. I initially sourced registered Angus purebred stock from Colenso stud, in the South Island and initiated an Artificial Insemination program using predominately Australia and English lines. Due to City council rezoning, I have been permitted to develop and subdivide some of my property. I was project manager, overseeing the building of our home and farm building and have already completed plans for a second home, which I hope to develop in the foreseeable future.

The lifestyle in New Zealand is fantastic, but unfortunately future opportunities for me are not in New Zealand. This is the reason I decided four years ago to gain a career in the mining industry. After researching I felt hands on in the field approach would be a good start and decided to go into exploration drilling. I flew to Perth and gained necessary qualifications for entry in the exploration mining sector.

I was employed by AusDrill North West to work on a RC Drill Rig in predominately iron ore. Through AusDrill, I completed induction courses permitting me to work for a number of mining companies, Rio Tinto, BHP Billiton, Straits Resources and other smaller operations. I actively contributed to team meetings providing leadership on operational and technical issues. As Health and Safety is an important aspect within the mining industry I suggested recommendations to implement change to procedures, due to a major incident on a drill rig, and was awarded a Safety Incentive Award from AusDrill NorthWest at the request of BHP Billiton.

I was approached to move to Queensland from Western Australia to diamond drill for OME, drilling for copper/gold and various other minerals. I have worked on each of their drill rigs throughout Australia, KL1200, UDR650 and a track mounted Mingdrill66. Predominantly diamond drill rigs but have also worked on their UDR650RC diamond drill rig.

I was employed by Boart Longyear to work in their West African operations based in Ghana. I was initially employed as a Senior Driller/Forman to oversee the training of national crews. Establishing good communication and trust with nationals was paramount for the success of the project. I was operating LF90, UDR650 and a KL1200 drill rigs, during this period. I also spent time in the workshop advising and instructing modification to a LF90 drill rig that was being built by Boart Longyear.

I was promoted to Supervisor RC/Core with the overall responsibility, support and supervision of all the nightshift crews, rigs and their operations. Implementing and working within company policy and procedures, I liaised with the senior geologist and Boart Longyear management to ensure smooth operations were performed and achieved. Previous experience in forestry proved to be a great asset as some drilling sites were situated in remote jungle locations and I was able to clear and build roads with large forestry machinery, enabling drill rigs to be brought in. Using your initiative, being adaptable and having an ability to problem solve are requirements as a supervisor in West Africa, as everyday brought new challenges.
