PROFESSIONAL WORK EXPERIENCE

Junior Mining Engineer – Mimosa Mining Company (Sep 2007 – March 2008)

- making use of mine planning and design packages like X-Pac in presenting technical ore reserve and mining method data to senior management for proper decision making

- Planning, designing and reviewing the mining process cycles in narrow reef platinum mining
- determining and managing the optimal economic process parameters between mining, geology, survey and core engineering
- determining and managing Key performance indicators for Mining and Technical Services
- liasing with the Safety department for design and implementation of safety management systems in the core process departments
- managing main mining projects for ventilation, mining machinery, development and production ( I managed a Raise boring project which included pegging out the survey surface positions, site access road construction, earth site excavation to parent rock, determining the maximum amount of broken rock on the underground holing point and all the processes involved). Here I was also managing contractors involved in that project
- managing costs versus production and safety in the core process
- trying and justifying recommendations for new machinery
- formulating and reviewing job procedures and managing them

Mine Overseer - Mimosa Mining Company (March 2008 to date)

- reporting to the Mine Captain
- managing and running a production team of at least 25 people per shift
- meeting production (blasted tonnage, centares mined out, hoisted tonnage), safety (zero harm) and economic calls (to remain in the lowest but roductive cost-quartile of platinum producers)
- managing a 3-day mining cycle which includes LHD lashing, mechanised and non-mechanised support installation and Mechanised Rig drilling. Mechanised support installation involves managing Rock-bolter which drills and instals expansion shell roofbolts on its own. Non-mechanised support involves jackhammer drilling and grouting of support holes
- conducting blasting operations at the mine
- ensuring adherence to all statutory regulations and internal Mine standards relevant to Mining
- enforcing adherence to safety management systems ( ISO 14001 and OHSAS)
- budgeting of resources for maximum output
- working hand in hand with all services stakeholders which include Engineering (machinery and equipment), Survey (mining directions and layouts), Geology (grade and ground control), Mine services (construction of tipping grizzlies, sumps, maintenance of water and compressed air lines), Ventilation (good working environment), Safety (induction, risk assessment processes and tailgate topics and their deliverance to employees)
- utilising the available resources especially machines in a responsible manner

Assistant Overseer Miner – Mimosa Mining Company (March 2007 – Aug 2007)

- planning and controlling the mining of quality chrysotile asbestos by determining, managing and reviewing mining, geology, survey and engineering key performance indicators
- managing the Sub-level Caving in combination with Block caving mining method in relation to geo-technical waste and ore-rock qualities

- evaluating mining options in a technical and practical way for optimal decision-making

Under-graduate attachee – Gaths Mine (Jan 2005 – Sep 2005)

- Hands-on experience on all basic mining activities done in Development, Support, Production, Shafts, and Mine Services (Surveying, Geology, Mine Planning, and Rock Mechanics)
- was part of a team that did a project on the Time and Motion Studies of two Wagner LHDs to analyse their availability and utilisation as part of optimising development and production operations
